i am not religous but i like to think that there is a god. if you dont belive in god, dont be a downer and try to shut down everone elses beliefs. im just saying that to a fetus the walls and the cord have been aroud them the entire time they have been alive, just like our world has been around us since we were born, who knows, if we do end up in heaven and look down on earth we might be think the same thing you are: they actually can confirm they are in [god's world] pretty easily, by feeling the [life and world] around them.

its not exactly a conspiracy, dimethyltryptamine (DMT) is produced by the pineal gland near the center of your brain and it literally causes dreams. you can even listen to music to activate it.

listen to this while falling asleep and then tell me it isn't real:

Why don't some religious people provide us with an actual argument. im all riled up and I have nothing to go on. I'll just go anyway lol.

I have a religion, its called science. It helps me explain the unexplainable, it helps me understand and cope with death, it unites me with people of similar interests, it provides a solid foundation for all my beliefs. To me, that is the purpose of every religion. What frustrates me is that where I admit I use science as a crutch for when my mind is overwhelmed with the difficult realities of our world "religious folk" will fight to the death trying to convince the rest of us that their god exists.

There are lots of things that science can't explain, like wtf was before all of us, before the universe, where did it come from, and for that stuff I let it be. It is unknown to me, its not comforting but it's the closest I can get to the TRUTH.

Religious studies examines the origins of these fables and they all have logical explanations. Just the fact that these "prophets" arrived in times when europeans still thought sickness came from evil spirits makes me hesitate to accept any supernatural stories from that time.

Witchcraft, polytheism, and even animism are still widely followed throughout the globe. These practices may seem bizarre to us, but remember that they see what we believe as equally odd and unbelievable. Let this idea prompt you to question the validity of your own beliefs. Although I'm pretty sure I'm right, so do you think that your own views are correct. Where my beliefs are built on observable facts yours are built on the hearsay of men who lived thousands of years ago. As a last thought, how many of the ideas science have been refuted, rejected, and redone? Now how many religious ideas have undergone the same treatment?

ok so it causes dreams, but when you die, you die...your body is dead, therefore that gland is dead and no longer works

like i said before, i beleve there is a god, but wouldnt say im religous, im not trying to make anyone religous so there fore i dont need any proof because there is none. thats why its a belief and not a fact. also i too rely on science more than i do religion.

i dgaf on spelling

my dad beleives in god too, so i guess thats why. it in no way efects my life, like i dont just think in my head "what would jesus do" all the time. the reason pretty much is 'why not?'.

the brain cells in your body are still functioning for around 15 minutes after you take your last breath. cells don't just spontaneously die from a sudden lack of resources (human death)

also, google it.

thats funny cause i sometimes think "what would jesus do?" if im in a tough spot.

understandable, who am I to press my opinions onto you.

I guess I'm getting at the root of my ideas here. Objectively, if you were studying yourself, how would you see your belief in god? Is it not an aid, a coping mechanism used to make sense of the world, and if so, isn't it entirely irrelevant if it exists or not. So why is it so important that god does exist? And if not then the very hesitation of the belief in a god is enough, for me, to discredit its existence.

understandable, i wouldnt say that i hesitate to believe, its just a belief deep inside me that dosent show on my outside and i rarly bring it out. no has yet given me enough proof that god doesnt exist so i am just going to think that there is someone up there

How is a baby to know that before it is born though?

An unborn fetus is to a fully grown human being as a fully grown human being is to God.

Finally someone levelheaded in this shit! Tolerance is key, were all here on earth tryin to progress and better ourselves. You dont know where someones been and what theyve been through or what theyve seen... But one things for certain, theyve had a different life than you and believe what they believe for a reason.

So you're telling me that I'm actually living my life in a giant womb, and death...is merely birth into the arms of god's OB/GYN? God is actually a woman pregnant with 700,000,000uplets? Is murder just a miscarriage from god's overstuffed uterus? Can god have abortions? Is that like suicide?

I think everyone's getting a little too upset over this as well. It was just a bit of harmless shit stirring, relax guys.

the world would be a better place without religion, in this day and age we no longer need it at all, now it just causes more harm then good

Drop a bit of Bertrand Russell in here because Bertrand Russell is a fucking king. Sort of relevant....

Q: Do you think there’s a practical reason for having a religious belief, for many people?

Bertrand Russell: Well, there can’t be a practical reason for believing what isn’t true. That’s quite... at least, I rule it out as impossible. Either the thing is true, or it isn’t. If it is true, you should believe it, and if it isn’t, you shouldn’t. And if you can’t find out whether it’s true or whether it isn’t, you should suspend judgment. But you can’t... it seems to me a fundamental dishonesty and a fundamental treachery to intellectual integrity to hold a belief because you think it’s useful, and not because you think it’s true.

"Religion is a disease, a festering cyst in our society's brain, trying to cope with its own obsolescence in the modern world, where its organizational failings and hypocrisy is only outweighed by its most avid supporters' ignorance."

-Mikko Hietala

if its religious, the reason is mostly "because my parents believe". which is a bad reason.

although the classical 14yr old atheist pisses me off probably even more.

if you ever educated yourself and did not hesitate to question your faith (people always think thats not part of faith, but noone wants mindless sheep as followers) in order find "your" way, you can believe what you want.

but if some fuckhead thinks that god exists with 100% probability and he has never questioned his faith nor tried to educate himself on the vast improvements in science, cosmology and biology, then i can call him a fuckhead for a reason.

I'd be up for a social experiment, where we create (clone) a child and then subject each one to every religious and non-theist notion and see how differently they would grow up.

Made me think of a Christian experiment back in the day where they didn't speak to a group of babies to find out what God's language was. Result: retarded babies.
