Christ turpin= triple flatspin...

freeskiing will never be like aerials because all aerialists do is backflips whith spins that go through the flips and that is what they are judged on. Freeskiing there are so many different spin flip variations and you hardly ever see a freeskier do a straight up backflip and spin through it. Also with arial judging they have set styles which takes the free part out of it so its not freeskiing.
 
ya man, turpin gets no love. his sponsors dropped him and bullshit and hes so nice to everyone that rides around him he deserves way more respect in the ski industry
 
Hell yea turpin!! I can't wait to see the video. And there's no need to hate on this, over the next few seasons triples will start to make their mark on skiing. I know its scary to think about this but its progression, and its great!
 
i never said i wanted to stop progression, i just meant that i think triples are a bit much dont you think? there are plenty of other ways to progress. from my perspective, freesking is about your own style and making tricks look good. not to say that this triple looked horribly hucked but i would rather see a smooth, slow kang flip than a fast as hell triple. there are some tricks i do not like no matter how insane they are. for instance (i know i will get hated on), i really dont like how a double cork looks but thats progression and if freeskiing is going that way then i cant stop it. again, freeskiing is about the tricks that you like doing, not what impresses people. even if i could do a double cork i probably wouldnt just because i do not like how it looks. if you're skiing just to impress people than you lost the whole point of the sport.
 
So, wait, the discussion is what you think freeskiing "progression" should be about on an industry level, versus Chris Turpin? Because... who are you again?

I love how this crap comes up every time someone does a new trick... when he did it I'm so sure he was thinking "Wow, this will spark a lot of debate as to what direction the sport should go in by amateurs on the internet! Isn't it magical to be part of a movement!" and not "let's see if I can do three flips!"

a couple years back nobody would have ever thought of doing a double cork and now it's already standard for the pros

that is the name of the sport we are arguing about. apparently people don't get the name FREE skiing, meaning do what you want, have fun, and progress our beloved sport. one good thing that may very well come out of the progression of triples will be a lot more publicity for skiers because although some of the people already in the sport may not approve of this because its more like areals or wtvr, no one that doesnt know skiing very well or isn't already involved in our sport is going to be turned off by the sport for that reason at all. personally i think triples will and should be pushed asap because it will let our sport stand out from snowboarding (because besides grabs they can do pretty much all we can do). i will still be able to rest in peace with that because i know no matter what people will keep pushing style in the sport as well so we will never become what areals is today.

You are saying that people should do whatever they like progress, but then you say that you should not ski and do a trick to impress? So what is wrong with Turpin progressing by doing a triple? Yes it impressed people, butt that is not the main reason why he did it. You are such a hypocrite because you say that people should not ski to impress and then you go and talk about what tricks you would not do because they don't look cool.
 
everyone who is down talking triple flips if u could do them u would do them all the time so ya if u cant do the trick then u can't really say anything about whether skiers should or shouldnt be doing them
 
I mean it isn't exactly what I like to see when it comes to freeskiing, but still gotta give mad respect to turpin because thats still gnarly as fuck. I just hope it doesn't spread like the fucking plague tho.

However, triples are not something I look forward to seeing personally. Not that anyone (especially those people throwing these massive tricks) cares what I think, but I think that doubles have huge amounts of improvement to be made. I haven't seen many doubles that I like to look at. Yes they all earn my respect, but I prefer to watch other things like creative grabs, completely controlled spins, and flowy stuff. Doubles will get there soon I imagine, but not yet. This triple is sick and all, but I hope it doesn't drive people to move on to them before mastering the doubles.

Holy shit. A whole lot of kids are saying that triples are bad news. Fuck, let skiing branch off into several directions, christ, thats why i think NS is bad sometimes. Everything is the same. If part of the sport becomes more triple flip oriented, than fuck, fine. Let the sport branch out in several directions, its freeskiing, we dont have to all conform to the same image. At least thats what i think.
 
yea and lets face it, at this point the sky is the limit. You simply cannot stop someone if they are committed to triples guys.

Person 1 : " I got it, going for it right now."

Person 2 "No man don't do it, just don't man."

Person 1 "No, I got it."

What I'm saying is, I don't see that response happening by Person 1.
 
I'll prolly get a lot of crap for this but I think that is excessive. The Sport is becoming too much like a video game, and while that is insane, i think it will cause a lack of respect for the sport

I must say though of all the people to pull this off. I give Turpin mad props.. he is one of th emost creative people ever to step on skis... and he never really blew up to the potential that he had..

his skiing in the park has always been top notch.. from almost winning wsi a few yeaers ago with the fakie 7 seat belt .. to being one of the 1st people i fnot the 1st doing all fakie pipe runs

Turpin is the man, id really like to see footage of this triple... im sure he will pull it of b4 the summer is over..
