Chris Benchetler Fire on The Mountain

I love the Dead and I love Chris's skiing so this looks super dope. Reminds me a bit of something Sweetgrass did a couple years ago-

Just watched it yesterday. Don't get the point of the project. First half fillers and reused footage, 2nd half pretty much what Sweetgrass already did but editor on more shrooms... Dreamy, Almost fall a sleep. The surfing part was dope though.

Yeah I agree with you, I'm not sure what I was expecting. The whole Dead theme seemed really hokey to me, and then I remembered TGR produced it. Cool idea but the movie could've been made without the theme and it probably would've been better in my opinion.

It was kinda every wher skiing, snowboarding and surfing with some local music everywhere. visuals were nice it was cool but no real big lines or jumps mostly just visual FX's. personally not what I wanted but it was still cool

This movie made absolutely no sense, the Grateful Dead had really nothing to do with it other than the music and maybe the lights on mammoth. The clips all seemed like they were 5 seconds or less and literally all the same thing just pow turns. Music choice was good obviously but I just don’t get why this was advertised so much as some crazy skiingXdead film

The new Chet skis art are Grateful Dead too , disliked them so much I didn’t buy a pair

dude got to ski at night and light up the hill how he wanted. seemed more fitting for a small segment of a warren miller movie than anything. Im sure Chris liked the experience and Atomic will market the hell out of it just to regain the cost.

lights were cool, even though most of the shots were reused

i do like the deads music though, so i liked the music aspect

I think soundtrack is a huge part of ski videos, and I totally get having the soundtrack be a huge inspiration for the project itself but ski videos that market themselves as such seem to have a hard time pulling it off in a way I like.

The whole "Official" part of it rubs me the wrong way and makes it feel like a corporate marketing scheme rather then a project that came from a passion for the music (which it undoubtedly was on Chris's part but tl;dr TGR handled marketing it the wrong way imo)

you guys oughta eat more mushrooms

I thought the Chill Walton narration was cheesy as fuck. I skipped over the first segment and went straight to the lit up mountain part. Overall, I thought this part was well done and they chose a good Dead song for it. If you compare it to a traditional ski flick, obviously it’s not going to stand up. If you look at it as a close collection of friends enjoying a unique experience on their “home” mountain it makes more sense to me.
