Chosing skis

I'm trying to figure out what kind of skis to get.

First off, I'm 6' 6" and over 280 lbs.

I ski mostly groomers, have gotten into park and want to concentrate more on it this season, and am heading out west this year for a couple weeks.

I'd say my skill level is intermediate, my home base Blue Mountain bores me, and I had no trouble skiing Mount Tremblant blacks last year.

Any advice on skis for me?

You prly want a ski over 180 cm for sure, and on the stiffer side.

Maybe like a 185 volkl wall??

A 183 Stl would be way to soft for him.

Like was said, a 185 Volkl Wall would be a good choice. But, do you want something wider for when you go out west?

"First off, I'm 6' 6" and over 280 lbs."

I'm thinking you would need something over 190. Basicaly go as long as you can find, you also won't want anything soft. I'm 6 iches shorter than you and 100 lbs lighter and I ski 182's for all mountain.

The MSPs look sick too.

I have a pair of 176 Scratch SprayersI bought on a whim, i wonder if I could use those as park skies and take the "park" aspect out of the consideration process for my new pair.

those would be fine, but your 6' 6'' and a 176 might be a little small, but its totally your preference. if your looking for some really fun all around skis not for park, i would say get some k2 seths. soooo fun

comes in 187 this year, but i think it would be a great ski for you greg. They look sick and can definately handle groomers and pow. I talked to a rep at my local store (he was delivering demos or something) and he said you can take it in the park too. I'm not sure about thsoe 175's you have, thats really short for you but if you wanna have a dedicated park only ski those will work fine.

I guess my next question would be about bindings. Any suggestions or should I decide on the ski first?

if you havent bought skis already greg, check these out. might fit you a bit better brov.

Moment M1's, super long for you tall guys, and seems like it would be stiff enough. ive never skied, or even flexed them so i would have no idea, just thought i would throw these out.

i wouldnt go anything UNDER 190 if i were you. 6'6" is very big in the ski world. you'd still be taller than these 196's dude.

yea he's probobably right. at 6'6 280 you will be able to handle the 105 waist of the M1's easily. They will give you enough float for pow and should still do fine in the park. With your size you will be able to handle larger skis easier than most people so they should be fine in the park

Definitely you need something 180-190 for length. i would take a look at teh Armada El Ray, Volkl Bridge(more for groomers, all mtn, some park) or Wall (symmetrical sidecut for more park performance, skiing backwards.) Line blends, K2 public enemy, Or a pair of 06-07 volkl Karmas If you can find them. They will be cheaper too, as they are last years model.

just go to a shop that has all of the skis that were listed and check em out for youself. dont just buy them without even looking at them first hand.

I agree with Sam.

Also, do they still make the Mojo 90 in a 191 or 193 or something? It would be great for out east, but if you are going out west, I'd definitely recommend something that is 100+ in the waist. If not around 110.

Here's my thought process for these skis. Keep in mind I'm norrowing these down based on just a couple hours research, so if I say anything that doesn't make sense let me know.

185 Volkl Wall - look good, maybe geared too much towards park. Too short? $500

185 Volkl Bridge - probably would suit me well, could be too short. $600

187 4FRNT MSP - these look great, better length. $600

K2 Seths - These sound too soft.

181 Head Mojos - Biggest are 181, too small.

196 Moment M1 - 196 holy cow!! Great looking skis. I really like these. Their site says its preorder only, and the US price is 625, the Canadian price is 796. That's BS, our dollar is worth 1.09 US right now.

185 Armada El Ray - Good price, too short. $400

179 Line Blends - too short.

179 K2 PE - too short.

189 06/07 Karma - these sound good, having a hard time finding them though. How come last years model are preffered?

Be a pioneer and get the M1, looks really sick too. Pretty wide at 105 waist, so keep that in mind, but still really versitile compared to other pow skis.

last years Karmas are prefered because they stoped making them this year. Also the line blends come in a 186 wich would probably be a good ski for you.

im 6'6" 240lbs i used to ride on a pair of 4frnt msp's and they ripped pow, park, groomers, pretty much everywhere. They are pretty stiff too which would work well for you.

dude they make 186 mojo 90s, 186 prophet 90s, 186 blends all of which would work.

i think 187 msps would be the best of the ones you listed although 185 bridges too.

189 seths are cool as they are stiffer in the longer length. don't worry about them being too soft though- if seth can charge 55 degree varaible condition faces in AK on them, my guess is that you'll be ok, although the mini rocker will hinder groomer performance.

here it is: the BEST option for ya....

193 Movement (not moment) Gladiators! new this year exactly for people like you- i rode the 183 a bit last year (i'm 6'1", 170) and i can tell you they rock and are absolutely bomber durability-wise.

so yeah, get the movements...

wow you are fucking massive. if you can find the 07 karma in 189 i thin youd like em. as for p4s i have no experience.

yeah i did a google search which didn't turn up much in the states. email them and ask, they'll hook you up...
