First owned dslr. Familiar with them and use them quite a bit. Mostly taking nature photos and skiing. Right now I was looking at the D5000, T1i, and D90. Open to many more suggestions. Including lens, I dont want to spend more then $1000. $100 or so more is ok. I know these cameras all shoot video but I dont care about that. Thanks

ALKY you smart man

i agree the new d5000 and d3000 is a camera that will literally take you through everstep of how to take each picture which isnt for people who want to take photography seriously and the d90 is better and more manual control but one thing that is better on the those new cameras like the d5000 is nikons video feature has gotten a lot lot lot bettter.

Of those cameras, the D90, you may also want to take a ganders at the Canon 40D. I think it was recently discontinued, but there's tons of them for sale really cheap right now because a lot of people are upgrading to the 7D for it's video mode.

i have used the D90 and T1i before buying and ended up buying the T1i.

i found it was a little faster (with same speed cards) which would help for skiing.

also, i just find the shooting interface and menus a lot quicker to sort through and select settings.

both are great cameras for sure though.

40d is fantastic, makes a super high performance, affordable, pro camera. you want a 40d over a rebel if you have dslr experience

thanks. ill try to get my hands on one. will stores still sell them even if they dont get made anymore?

might be hard to find from a dealer but you can get them on forums and ebay still pretty easily, look at fredmiranda.com in the buy/sell forum

Thank you Jesus...I have been debating between the 5dmk2 and the t1i for a month or so now. Save for the 5d (which I dont need as a hobbiest) or buy the t1i (and feel like I am taking steps backwards in gear).

You rule. 7d for me.

yep, 40D all the way, try adorama.com or bhphotovideo.com both can find a new/used/refurbished camera and or kit, got my 40D refub for 800 with a 28-135 lens

right now I'm stuck between the Nikon D90 and Canon Rebel T1i. The D90 has HD video, but the T1i has more megapixels and it's cheaper

friend has a t1i pretty dope..member name rudolph hit him up ..i remember him saying something about maybe getting rid of it

megapixels shouldn't be too much of a factor, personally i think lower mp's look better because of less noise, but a few megapixels shouldn't be a deciding factor

higher megs is usually less noise... that's the point.

more pixels to fill the space and create a clearer image.

if your finding this with your image it's your ISO, shutter speed and aperture being totally wrong making the camera work harder to produce a clearer image.

I heard that even though the megapixels are lower on the d90 it still looks better or something, I'm leaning more towards the D90. Because my iPhone only has 3 MP but the pictures look way better then some other peoples who have more MPs on theirs

i find image quality better on some lower megapixel cameras, like the rebel xt vs the xsi
i also don't think noise stems from setting being totally wrong, sometimes you have to crank up the iso, it's about compensation, not failure to operate the camera

I really like my D90. the pictures are amazing and has pretty good iso capabilities. I wouldnt want more than 12mp, working with large files gets pretty slow sometimes and I also have a 48"X36" print from a D40 that looks flawless.

my recent pictures in my profile are all from my D90 if you want some reference

Go to a store, try them all out. Honestly, what you pick now is probably what you're going to be using for the rest of the time you're into photography. I mean if you go with the D90 and decide you want a Canon later, you have to sell all your Nikon stuff and make the switch.

I don't know, just go try them out. Go to a reputable store, ask a ton of questions, listen to what they have to say, mess around with the cameras, then make your decision.

Anyone on NS is going to tell you to chose whatever brand or camera they use themselves. Like.. I would personally say go for the T1i, but I also shoot Canon.

i dont know why you consider the t1i if the d90 is in price range, i personally own a 40d and love it... it have been discontinued but the made the 50d if you want to buy new... if not go with the 40d it bring better image quality

I have the D5000 and while the D90 is the better camera, over here the price difference was pretty big. It's really easy to use and does have decent manual controls. I find it a gentle learning curve with Aperture and Shutter Priotiy modes, and then you can go further with the full manual. I love it (but I am definitely no pro!)

haha this thread is old. dont know why it got bumped. i ended up getting a rebel xsi and love it.

T1i
The D90 is a better camera with a much larger (55mm vs. 135mm) lens but if you save the money and get different type of lenses with the T1i it might be better so you are not stuck with a zoom lens..

It is worth buying a Canon DSLR purely because of the quality and price of Canon's optics.

Also the Rebel T1i has a video feature that record 720p in 30fps which is pretty cool if you 'so happen to decide you wanna film a cool trick at that cool urban'

as for quality, here is a video that I made showing the limits of this camera in different lighting:

NS gurus, please help me embed this video if I fuck up, which I most likely will
