So today I noticed that the bases of my skis had a couple of small cips, about .5" long. I'd say there are five or six of them. Can a ski shop fill these holes, or is it even a big deal?
im pretty sure you are going to need new bases. from the sounds of it your skis are pretty fucked so what you want to do is use a chizzle to seperate the base from the rest of the ski and peel it off then go to your local hardware store and buy some white or black plastic and get some industrial double sided tape and tape that shit to the base of your ski and there you go, new base and you will be rollin on dubs fo show.
Those are deep enuf for ptex. The better your base is maintained, the better glide your skis will have. Better glide equals more consistancy in your turns and speed, leading to better predictability and more confidence on hill.
no problem, just ptex it and scrape off with a metal scrape, small scratches arent that big a deal as long as they don't go to the core or are just along the edge because water can freeze between your base and edge and expand so your edge will pull out.... mind those...
and on a related note, i once heard of a shoptech replacing a rather large piece of base on someones skis and just for the fun of it,he put a penny underneath the new base, it was quite epic to see, don't have any dea where i saw the picture tough...
