Chile/Argentina+Job

mkay............ so i want to go down to chile or argentina for a summer and work at a resort get a free pass and ski all summer..... im thinking valle nevado in Santiago. not sure how that works getting a job in another country?? any tips/help/advise would be much appreciated.
 
i was thinking of working in new zealand and you have to get a visa and stuff. sounds like a sick plan just start trying to get a job early becasue getting a visa can sometimes be a bitch
 
i´m from bariloche argentina. the local mountain is Catedral  few weeks ago there was a report of pep riding it, our park we could say it sucks pretty much, there are a bunch of rails (6-7) and a wall ride and they usually build a kicker that is open a few days in the season, but the GOOD thing is, these past 2 winters was amazing the amount of pow we had. so that.sthe best thing here huge BC to ride.

if you work as a ski instructor u get the ski pass, but u have to be certified. there are also a few more mountains in the area but they´re all smaller. chapelco may have the best park next season
 
Unless you are a citizen of Argentina or Chile, you are gonna need a visa.

You wont get one just by applying, you will need to some kind of hookup to facilitate the process.

So, you need to be a certified instructor here who happens to know someone whos in charge of a ski school down there. If you pull that off you will get a free pass and you wont make shit for money.

Alternativey, you can try to get a job guiding for an american company, in which case youll get decent pay but no free pass. In order to get a job you will need guiding certifications, atleast passable spanish, and you will need to have spent a few summers down there already.
 
went to vella over the summer they have a ton of terrain and good runs. helpful hint be sure you know some spanish
 
if you want a ski instructor job that is going to be really hard if you don't have at least level 2, but it's really possible that you can get a job for example in a restaurant or something like that without a working visa, becuse not a lot of people here ask for it, at least in the ski resorts, but in those kind of jobs no way you are getting a free pass.

if you are good at snow parks you could try to talk to the guys that run the park in the resorts i told you, they are young guys that could hook you up if you have experience, because that's what we need here...
 
yeah i dont have experience ski instructing, but my spanish is fair and ill have my level two avy and a class in wilderness rescue.... basically i just want to ski all summer. it doesnt have to be in chile, im down for argentina or new zealand... but anyhow what kind of pay could i expect if i managed to get a job in a restaurant or park crew?
 
check out SWAP to nz, consider getting a non-hill job that pays more and then buying a pass,or working half the week and ripping the other half.
 
I'm just wondering if you ever got this to work out.

working in chile/argentina and skiing there for a summer is pretty much one of my life goals. I know they have some exchange programs for people from south america to work at US ski resorts during their summer. Do they have something like that for people from the US?

 
I'm in a similar boat, I'm applying to teach english in chile, specifically patagonia i think. It provides a free stay, but minimal money. I haven't looked into the details, I dont even know if its a summer only thing, but you might want to check out some abroad intern opportunities if you're a college goer.
 
Well first off I would not go to Valle Nevado. If you are going to go for the season youll go nuts there. Go to El colorado or La Parva.

However my advice would be to go to Termas De Chillan. the hill is super sick and it has trees so you dont have a bunch of down days when it storms.

Well my friend was in buenos aires and said he met some kids from university of michigan who pay $60 a month rent for a real nice place... so maybe you could just save up?

I actually decided to move to buenos aires to ski this summer if you want to split a place... haha
