Do you think that the opportunities should be just as high for the girls as they are for the guys as far as freestyle skiing (comps etc.)goes?

Never once should you second-guess the power of a woman on skis...in more ways than one.
 
The thingis though girls competition isn't as high. If it was as big as it was with the guys than i'd say it should be the same, but now there aren't that many girls.

 
actually there are a lot of opportunities such as comps, and more and more around washington.. cause i see youre from schweitzer or something.. you just gotta drive a long ways

I think they should just run with the guys if they want to. Lots of time they dont have woman catagories cuz theres not enough of them. Let em run with the guys. And I still dont know why girls arent nearly as good as guys are! They should be!

yea, i never understood why girls cant be just as good as guys in a sport like skiing or snowboarding. Weight and muscle dont have too much to do with this sport. There are skinny 110 pound guys on skis winning comps and going big. Why cant girls too? I dont think its physical, i think its a mental thing.

i think girls have the same oportunity. i do. and yeah like matt said. just ski with the guys. but as well. competitions arent going to make a division for girls if there arent enough girls to amke it worthwhile.. denise and i werent allowed to compete at the molson ex pro challenge in tremblant. but we were allowed to still hit the pipe and be fore runners.. its all about the experience too

At the lower levels there's a lot more oppourtunity for girls over guys. If you know the owner of a store and you compete and you're a girl you'll get a good deal at the very least. But yeah it's hard for anyone to 'make it big' and when there's only like 2% of girls newschoolin it up then it makes sense that there's only about 2% of pros that are women.

I definitely agree with the whole experience thing and I know that is what this year is all about for me anyway...I'm hoping that the interest will continue increasing like it is right now. Mental problems are the biggest ones to overcome too...that's what the biggest thing is as far as hurdles to jump just because we're naturally thinking too much...hehe. yeah.

i think the reason that a lot of girls don't get into the whole newschool thing is that they are just plain intimidated. they don't want to go in the park and make a fool of themselves in front of all the guys. none of my girl friends that i ski with will ever drop the pipe or come in the park with me. however, i think the sport is rapidly becoming more accepting toward females (all-female newschool ski camps, for example). so to all the ladies out there, keep it up!!!

most guys don't start out being able to do 720s either. everyone has to suck it up at some point and take their hits and make fools of themselves at some point. and I don't know one guy who doesn't love to see any chick in the park, especially on twin tips, ESPECIALLY if they're hot.

I think that it's unfair to say that there aren't oppertunities for girls in newschool comps and such. Most comps are willing to open up a girls division if they get enough people to compete. It's hard to have a one or 2 person division because then it's not much of a competition at all.

I know that southern ontario has had a few comps with girls divisions, including a halfpipe jam 2 seasons ago.

So really, what we need first is more girls getting into the sport. So encourage and support your friends, girlfriends, sisters and moms (I met a woman in my freeski course who was nearly 40 and wanted to learn a front flip by the end of the season).

look for halfpipe/slopestyle series at Horseshoe this winter. Definitely a girls category (if there are enough). If not, we compete with the boys

some of those snowboard chicks a fuckin amazing now. Kristi and Sarah are really good as well. But yeah I see where your getin at, I am sure shawn white can't be over 120 pounds. And he goes absolutley huge. I don't now whats wrong with girls, there all fucked up, I don't understand em one bit.

 
I think it all depends. There are opportunites for girls, depending on where you live. Like someone said, it depends how far you want to drive to enter a comp that will have a girls division.

If around where you live, there are comps with enough girls, then ya there's the opportunity, but if you live somewhere, where there aren't even comps then no you don't get the opportunity...i hope that made sense?

Living in North Idaho, there aren't a whole lot of comps, but hopefully we'll get out there a little more this year and get more girls into the sport. It's true that guys don't learn right away, but somehow they have always been able to advance faster than girls in just about any sport.

I know why girls are not as good at sports as guys! I don't mean to sound like a fuckin dork but it's cause girls have a higher center of gravity than boys which makes it harder for us to land jumps and balance period. I think in the next couple years there will be alot more chix rippin cause i know of tons just starting too!

 
the higher center of gravity isnt true...their bones are weaker on the average. thats why they report many more injuries than guys do.

 
I think the whole weaker bone thing is relatively true, but honestly guys, we have a harder time with the mental part of it all. Don't get me wrong, I love skiing and I am hoping to hit it strong this year, but it's thanks to my guy-friends that have agreed to help me out.

540 is right commitment. they say guys have commitment problems, no its girls. relationships to hucking backs, girls just cant seem to go through with anything. but they are hot so it makes up for all of it. exept that one girl in my class, she makes me wanna peel my eyeballs out so I dont have to look at her, truthfully she is the ugliest thing on the planet. and her lisp doesnt make it any better. but sarah and kristi are hot so they cancel her out.

most are missing the nuts to do tricks, thats all. center of gravity, weaker bones none of them have anything to do with actually trying and are just excuses.

 
girls should have a lower centre of gravity. girls bodies are shaped differently, their muscles, and bonde structure do not have the same mechanical advantege that males do. they are not able to ge the same amount of power as a guy would. but most of all girls seem to have more common sense than guys. not always, but if I told most people that I was going to throw myself off a cliff while attempting to twist and contort my body in the air. guys would say that it is sweet, and girls would generally thinkI was insane. just generality, but I have found that it is fairly accurate.
