I thought that it was very dangerous and stupid for Kerry to cross into the opponent's family lines to make a point, although a weak one at that, especially on one as sensitive as homosexuality. He said that he was trying to pay a compliment to the Cheney's, but somehow I didnt quite get that feeling when he said it in the debate. I am sure that his campaign manager smacked him upside the head for this one.

Ever since Cheney first brought this up in a campaign speech weeks ago, it's been fair game. They're just playing politics when they try to make a story out of this. It was really pretty harmless.

I didn't see it as an insult at all. I got a glance of it on the news and all he said was like 'I'm sure she doesn't choose her sexuality' or something. It wasn't even in a mean way.

Its the fact that BOTH Kerry and Edwards brought their daughter into it very randomly it was clearly an agenda the Kerry campaign had. Whether or not it was harmless or not it was very pointless and i see no gain in bringin it up. In fact i see it as a strength for Bush and Cheney. His daughter works on the campaign and is very loved by her father showing he does acknowledge the idea of homosexuality, the KErry campaign fucked that one up!

Pete is currently sulking around Mt. Hood, shooting with Poor Boyz Productions and hitting on Kristi Leskinen. She hates guys, Pete lamented, so it’s not going good. Apparently Canada isn’t the only thing that’s tough for Pete to get into.

The Bush campaign has made a bigger deal out of it than anyone... it wouldn't even be an issue if it hadn't been used by Bush/Cheney as a selling point to all the people they're preparing to rob of their rights.

Anyway, who gives a fuck? Someone having a lesbian daughter isn't a big deal at all, and it certainly isn't an insult. It' s just a fact.

Its not a question that it was an insult or not, its the fact that you shouldnt make (or try anyway) a point by using people from your opponents families. I think that it is just another step into the degredation of campaign ethics. It seems like everything is going out the window. Other than that, what made matters worse is the fact that Edwards wife went onto nationally syndicated radio saying that 'it was almost like the cheney's were ashamed of their daughter' responding to Cheney's reaction to the statement. What the hell was up with that? She would be doing the same thing if bush was trying to manipulate her family into his own political gain as well, no matter what the issue.

it was kind of cheap to bring her into it, but i think it worked effectively in the argument. bush wouldn't even answer that question, it seemed obvious the way he answered it that he's a bigot, and kerry pointed that out to show the contradiction between bush and cheney.

first off, why does everyone care, secondly - when edwards said it in the VP debate, cheney said something along the lines of 'i would like to thank mr edwards for his generous comments towards my family' or something. kerry said basically the same things, and now you are all pissed?

HOW THE HELL IS THIS THE SAME THING? You may want to think that he was trying to make a compliment but it is clearly not the case. The way that Edwards framed his response was totally and completely different. I think that what Kerry did was wrong and he did open himself up for criticism for doing so. I think whatever windfall he gets from this he deserves.

And in response to the person who said that Bush was a bigot for not giving a definite answer one way or the other, have you ever thought that maybe he is telling the truth to you? I for one am in the same boat. I dont know if homosexuality is something that you are born into or if it is a choice. Does that make me a bigot?

I missed something. Where in that quote did you find something even remotely denigrating? Come one, Cheney's been plugging his daughter forever, she's a central part of his campaign. She hasn't exactly been trying to keep herself out of the public eye... she was a gay/lesbian programming official at MTV, and had a similar relations position for the Bush campaign. Now they've got people focussing on Kerry, rather than talking baout errors Bush made in the debates. Once again, the president gets off the hook. The point of these last few weeks is to keep the focus on the other guy. If you can't see the political posturing going on here, you're more than a little blind to the obvious. I mean, you don't see Kerry getting pissed off every time a Bush campaign official points out his wife's money, do you?

It's being INTENTIONALLY blown way out of proportion, and I'm telling you right now, Cheney is HAPPY Kerry said that. Gives him a political weapon, and he's using it. I guess it worked, because some people are certainly being affected by it.

How is it ridiculous and ignorant? There is no proven fact that people are born gay and since I am not gay, I dont know exactly what goes on in someones mind that is gay and if it is any different than what goes through mine (other than the obvious things), therefore I dont really know if it is a process of choices and/or experiences or if they are just born that way. There is evidence backing up both claims. I think that it is awfully ignorant of you to think that no one can have a different opinion than you on this subject.

No. I just think that a series of events/choices in someones life can make someone turn to a gay lifestyle. I am not saying that this is the only option that is to be considered. Like I said I really dont know because I havent been there, but I think you calling people bigots for that is just wrong.

One of my really good friends is gay. Dont think that I am ignorant. i saw what happened to him. He was like one of my best friends in jr high and was as far from gay as you can get then, but then he started hanging out with this gay guy and now he is a flamer. I asked him about it and he said that he didnt feel gay back when we were really good friends, but somethings just happened and he became that way in high school. He said it was a lot of things combining together that made him gay. So yeah, I have had some experience with gay people if that is what you are asking.
