4. Give two reasons why people can use white vinegar in preparing foods and in cooking without danger to the skin or the internal organs.

Because it has a higher Hp, the lower the Hp the more acidic the acid is.

just say that the pH isn't that low because vinegar is made with acetic acid, which is a weak organic acid. vinegar is only 5% acetic acid usually anyways, so the actual hydrogen ion concentration is pretty low.

Wow i can't beleive I screwed up Ph, anyway even though the vinigar has an additive or w/e, it still has a higher Ph making it less acidic.

why are you people refering to the pH level? sure, it's a FACT that weak acids have a higher pH (and by high i mean still under 7 but just close to it), but it doesn't have anything to do with what he's asking!

vinegar strength commonly is measured in "grains." In the u.s, this refers to the percent acid times 10. For example, 100-grain vinegar contains 10% acetic acid, 90% water. distilled vinegar strength ranges from 50 to 300 grains. specialty vinegars range from 40 to 100 grains. the color of distilled vinegar ranges from a straw color to water white.

so the reason why white vinegar isn't bad for us is that it's so friggin diluted. it has nothing to do with pH level.

dilution changes the pH level. don't try to tell us how smart you are and then say something stupid like it's because "it's so diluted. it has nothing to do with pH" the dilution of an acid and the pH of a solution are very closely related. in fact, pH values are directly correlated with dilution factors, as it is just the negative log of the concentration of hydrogen ions in a solution. the best way to answer the question that he asked is to say that vinegar is not dangerous because because it is a highly diluted solution of a organic, and therefore weak acid, and it's pH isn't even near a dangerous level.

my chem lab exam was on dilutions, worth 30% of our final mark, I got 88% on it. you may be smarter, but I know more about dilutions. They deal with pH in a big way.

it's great that you are in chemical engineering. anyone who gets into any school could be, all you have to do is decide to take those classes. it doesn't mean you aren't failing them all and don't know what you are talking about.
