Cheers to the broke ones

after viewing the kid that bought 3 brand new setups this year, lets hear it for the guys rocking their 3 year old beat to hell park skis and the boots that don't fit right because they bought them used. I say cheers to the guy that doesn't give a shit about his skis or jacket and is just happy to be there shredding.

dogg, you know what he means.

He's right anyways, props to the kids that get it done even with the jankiest of setups. it can be a bitch, but er'body gotta ski. and this shit aint cheap.

but really. There are a bunch of dudes that are tight on money and still find a way to make it work. if you get free gear good for you and keep up the good work, but most of us dont and it can be harder for some people to get gear than others.

Yea totally,

I've skied the past 4seasons on a pair of 5 year old hellbents. I know what it's like to be tight for cash.

All I'm trying to say is that OP could have left out his comment about someone having 3 setups, it's not necessary.

This guys on the money. ^^^^^

props to those guys that go without food, alcohol, going out... just drinking the rankest and cheapest shit... those working friday and staurday nights...

So they can afford new ski gear!!!

That's commitment!!!

I saved up money all summer and got two news ski setups this year and new boots but I'm now broke BECAUSE of it. Does that count?

The fact that you have money doesn't necessarily mean that you love skiing less, but it is pretty dope to see people who don't have as much just get their shit together and still ski as much and as hard as they can. And at least in my experience, these are the guys that throw down the hardest.

Dude for real. Im over here stressin over how to afford a pass and meanwhile every kid I see has the fulltilt fks 600 dollar decked out park ski combo. Just recently hung up the old orig oeange evo (orig spriggs) last season after 5 great ones. Skis are the squindos...so yeah and sessions pants I bought from Monstertrukk on here 5 years ago still my only pair today. Ill buy one jiberish and wear it til it shreds, usually after 2 or three years. Kids will leave home and recognize though, soon enough.

So in order to be core and love skiing kids have to ride on beat up 5 year old gear? If you can afford it, new gear is boss. Buying it every year is stupid. If you're just riding old stuff and wearing beat up gear just to look more like a hardcore skier than that's just an ego problem.

I've spent nearly 1400 dollars on new equipment this season, so far. I'm fucking broke. I eat maybe one meal a day and I'm starting to empathize more and more with dudes holding cardboard signs shouting obsceneties, and I'm hungry, but at least i have three new ski set ups for this year, and tomorrow I'm gonna pick up two more skis because, well, fuck it, i ski a lot. I have a pair of boots that I could ski in all season fine, but ive already got a brand new pair for when those shit the bed. And Im fucking hungry.

Whatever the fuck ever though. Who really gives a shit what your skiing on or what your rich etitled friends are on either. Skiing's defintely about more than material.

Really your just bringing to light that A) Your probly a lazy peice of shit with no budgeting skillz B) dont understand or value supporting the industry behind the sport in which you participate even on an anual or apparently biannual schedule C) you probly work at Wendys or 711 or your in college or some worthwhile shit, have a good one bro!

Im currently riding my friend's old Phil Larose Pro's (2009) that are on their third mount, have close to 200 days on them, and have already been given up on by the person before me.

Gotta love it ehh

Just bought some once mounted 184 Passports for $125 to start the touring setup. That's how I live the life.

I used a pair of 3 year old 164 (I'm 5'11) suspects for like 2 years that I took from my friends trash bin. I mounted them with a pair of super cheap mojos and used them as my ski for everything. They had a massive hole in the base but they were fun as hell. I'm sure you all are shaking your heads while reading this, but damn did I have fun with those.

amen brotha. All my friends parents have always bought them new gear every year, maybe even multiple sets. I got Armada Pipe Cleaners without edges from 2008-2009 that of course i bought myself and yellow and black spk boots that are missing huge chunks outta the liners. Its hard enough to by a pass somewhere you no. My roomy bought 3 pairs of skis last year and is buying a pair or two this month and doesn't even go that often, DUMB! Well i shouldn't say bought i should say got. Folks havent bought me ski gear sense i was like 7 lol

There comes a time when a ski is ready to go. You ski it til that point if youre regular folk like myself.

My skis are like 7 or 8 years old, I don't even give a shit. They're still fun as hell and haven't broken yet. Chronic Wides........no shit.

no no no no. This is not a debate about if someone wears a certain thing they are more 'core'. In my opinion a lot of us start out on NS spoiled kids who get things paid for by their parents. Unless youre pro, medium level riders like myself who want to ski 6 or 7 days a week until we are seventy arent going to get the newest and best gear since we are spending every waking hour working so we can ski. New gear is not the devil nor does it imply status or skill. Simply theres too much fun to be had and new tricks to dial to worry about the condition of my gear. That said I do put in a lot of time and effort now when I buy a new piece of gear, even used. I also am very self conscious and do my best to make my gear make me look good so I feel good and ski good. Dont fuck up my words howmie, I respect kids who can sweetalk theyre mom into buying 2 grand setups, kids who are 15 doing dubs and are decked out with next years stuff, and kids like me, who are older, who said fuck everything for a few years cause im skiing and have no support from anywhere but still somehow afford skiing.

Still rocking 4 year old skis that have no edges and have been run over by an 18 wheeler after flying off my roof rack. Beat to hell, but I love them. I will be honest though, if I find a good deal this year, I will definitely be buying a new pair. I'm 6'3 and they are 179's so they feel a bit short for me.

Also, gas is frickin expensive. Cheaper skis = More saved money for ski trips if you don't live in an ideal location for skiing (mid atlantic ugh).

Despite the season pass I hold, every one day ski trip costs around $30. It adds up fast, especially since I pretty much only do single-day trips.

Spent $1,000 on ski stuff, most of it at The Sports Page Labor Day Sale, after getting my first job back in May (I'm only 15). I mean hey, I had to replace my 3 year old Line Masterminds because they were worn down and they were too short for me.

just replaced a beat to shit pair of ar6s i had, look pivot 16 bindings from 06 or some shit. bent both of the tips, and delamed the topsheet and fiberglass underneath the heel. ended up having to re fiberglass the mounting platform and skiied on them over the summer on jibs and two saturdays at woodward. all im sayin is if theres a will theres a way

Same! i buy all my shit for winter over the summer which in my opinion is the best time to buy stuff because you can get gear like 60+% off!

Without the people that buy new shit every year, I would not be able to afford skis. Getting used skis that dont have much wrong with them for cheap is awesome.
