It doesnt matter if its for your own personal use...if its for a video you plan on doing something with then non of the above because you couldnt afford the rights to use them. It costs a lot of money to use a bands music in a video that is available to the public...my friend put out a BMX video and got slapped with a cease and desist order from a record label for using a song without permission. If its a small release you probably wont have an issue since they most likely wont ever see it. But this is the reason people like Level 1 and Poorboyz have to pay money or use little known bands for the music in their videos.

actually a lot of the music that is heard in films they don't have to pay for. the key is however getting the rights to it. you will knowtice that in credits form the music it either says courtesy of some labe, or arranged by (or something like that) so and so. some lables require you to pay a fee up front or take a % of sales, but many are just stoked to get their music out their. If you don't get the rights thought they can and will fuck you. so take the time to get in touch with lables so you don't get sued. If you aren't selling your video or are in very small #'s you should be fine.
