I think this is an appropriate place and time for my photographer rant, so brace yourselves

You know why every 15 year old kid in the world likes photography? Because it's easy as shit. Lazy people act like they are really talented when they press a fucking button on the $500 camera their mom bought them for christmas. With the exception of a few of you, you're not talented! Woah that sunset picture you took really blew my mind! No it fucking didn't and nobody gives a shit because everybody who sees your picture could have walked outside if they gave a shit about the sunset, but they don't so stop filling up our instagram feed with shitty pictures with stupid filters and 450 hashtags. Go out and learn a real fucking talent and stop wasting your time

with the exception of a few of you...

sorry I had to go there

as I see your point, you're a bit off. Really far off, actually. Photography is sure as hell a real fucking talent. The vast majority of kids "filling up our instagram feed with shitty pictures with stupid filters and 450 hashtags" don't consider it a hobby and by no means claim to be photographers. They see the sunset or whatnot, think that it looks cool, take a picture, and upload said picture to the internet. I see no harm in that, and nor should you. If it bothers you that much just don't friggin follow them. That's the best part about social media - you can chose to follow who you wish.

Back to my point about it being a real talent. 9 times out of 10 when you see a photo that stands out and makes you really look at it and enjoy it, it wasn't just taken with no thought. The photographer probably made a decent effort to make it the best photo possible, especially if it's professional.

Did you look at this kid's gallery? Most of the pictures aren't half bad! They sure aren't all of shitty sunsets and cappuccinos. The kid's got potential for sure. Do you really expect a 14 year old to be a professional photographer? I sure as fuck don't. So if the kid loves taking photos, let him take as many photos as his heart desires, because that is how one becomes a good photographer.

tl;dr: shut the fuck up and let people enjoy expressing themselves through the beautiful art form that is photography.

I agree for the most part, and I wasn't at all directing my rant at professional photographers. I was more directing it at teenagers who claim to be "up and coming photographers" when in reality they take shitty pictures of food and sunsets and their pets and 1000 other things that nobody cares about with $500 cameras. The only reason they do it is because it is easy as shit and for some reason considered a respectable hobby. This kid's pics aren't bad, and I wasn't trying to call you out OP, I'm just saying, I have about 5-6 friends who are the "photographers" that I described earlier and they piss me off

my photos looked like that when i was about your age.

but i also had a D100. step your game up yo.

What the fuck are all of you guys hating for? He's 14? 15?

Props for trying to get your work out there. Just keep honing your skills and the results will come.

Everyone has to start somewhere. Admittedly, I used to shoot a sun set picture or two and what not when I first started and I thought I was a "photographer". To me there's two kinds of photographers out there now-a-days: documenters and creators. Documenters just take pictures of life as it happens around them, such as OP. Creators make more than just a picture, they create art and give deeper meanings to their pictures.

Tl;dr Don't do what every other photographer is doing, try to be different. But have fun with it, the most important part.

I won't comment on your photo's, but you should be more humble. Post in the 'best photography thread' and ask for advice. Don't start a topic saying you make awesome photo's, because you don't - yet!

Just keep trying

"Endless" looks good, and "slow down" has a good idea but needs some minor editing, shadows look bad so they draw back the light streak feature a little bit.

Most of the pics have a good concept but as i said, need some minor adjustments to make them really stand out, keep shooting, you got potential

You know what? I am 15, and I do take photos of sunsets and shit. But honestly, why does this piss you off so much? Everyone starts of somewhere. I'm just trying to learn and take advice from the community on Newschoolers, so that one day I can hopefully be like the guys on here, giving advice and tips to people like me. I bought all my shit MYSELF, and dropping 1500$ isn't the easiest thing for a 15 year old who's only source of income are summer jobs (Calgary has about 1.5 months of summer). No, I don't upload my stuff to Instagram with "450 hashtags and filters" because I do this for a hobby, and I'm just trying to improve.

tl;dr Before you go and bash people on here, you should probably take into consideration that everyone starts somewhere, and that it takes time and practice to improve.

21, pay for my gear. I use my gh2 for edits, canon for stills, go pro for random shit. Occasionally a cool shot will make it to instagram, but I see them as two different things. My cameras are professional tools that I use to make pictures/videos. My instagram is for sharing things in picture form, like a status update/tweet. If I think something is cool/worth showing my friends, its on instagram.
