This is a great point... however you need to extend it further.
Sponsor me videos basically do nothing alone - especially if you're working at a local level.
Your first sponsorship will absolutely not be about money. Never ever will you get money on your first sponsorship, so right out the gate forget that idea. It will be for gear, and it will be at a local level.
Now - step back for a second and think about the whole concept of sponsorship from a business perspective. Don't think that sponsorship is a prize for being good - prizes in contests are that, sponsorship is absolutely not that.
Sponsorship of athletes exists for the sole product of selling more skis. Big companies have pro teams with really famous guys and pay a lot of money because they sell tonnes of skis internationally. Local shops and local reps do it to sell more skis in their region. So you get a local sponsorship when you can sell more skis for a company.
This is where you need to make the distinction - you don't get sponsored because you're good... you get sponsored for being good if you being good sells skis. However you can also get sponsored simply by assisting selling skis.
To understand this is to understand the nature of the system. Its why a ski patroller or ski instructor might get sponsored really easily. A ski instructor is teaching people how to ski, and if they recommend equipment its likely to result in a sale.
My best advice to you (and anyone reading this) is to use the sponsorship video simply as a part of your portfolio and approach. Show that you have talent, and show competition results. But show them more that you attend every contest, and that when you do win you make sure to get exposure for your sponsors.
Talk to reps, talk to shops. Show them that you're at events, and that you're excited about their product. Volunteer to help out around the shop, or ask the rep if you can help him at demo days. Showing that you're not too cool to talk to people and lend a hand can be an amazing way to get a foot in the door.
With a request for sponsorship, you need to show the whole package. You also need to show them in person that what you're promoting is true. Let them see you talking to kids at contests and being social.
Above all else remember that sponsorship is not a prize for being good.
Sponsorship is a business arrangement in which someone gives you product in order to help themselves sell more of it.
