CHEAPEST (read:FREE) places to camp at/near Mt. Hood

I live in North Portland and am going to officially be homeless come the 1st of August... I'm headed to SLC in September when I can move into a house w/ roommates, but in the meantime I'm gonna shred as much summer slush as my legs will carry me to (also too poor to afford a summer-pass)
Myself and a roommate are looking for the CHEAPEST (i.e. FREE) place to camp near Mt. Hood, ideally in the Sandy-ish area so the commute to P-town wont be so bad... Anywhere that anyone knows of would be appreciated though... BUT I don't wanna hear about some spot with $20 or even $10 site-fees w/ cableTVs, showers, and all that ritzy shit... the point of camping for a month is ROUGHNECKIN FO FREE... IM TALKIN STRAIGHT OUTTA SUNNYVALE, DRINKIN VODKA EATIN COLD HOTDOGS BALLIN ON A BUDGET TYPE SHIT
So help a brother out por favor... +k and a sparked bleezy for anyone who helps me find the right neck of the woods

stay at the airstrip and you could hitchhike from the parking lot to portland?

i bet you wouldn't have a hard time getting to p-town; but you might have a hard time getting back. haha
 
This. There are some places to camp around Sandy, but you'll prob get ousted by the Sandy police if you set up anywhere around there I can think of. I'd post an ad on craigslist and ask for a free campsite or try couch surfing dot com.

Its a ways to hitchhike dude. Just know what you're getting yourself into before doing it.
 
airstrip. any place in the woods by govy. me and my friends just went up a road into the forest and govy and lived there all of last summer. it got shut down this summer.
 
i think its legal to camp in certain areas in the national parks free up to 2 weeks at a time, you might want to check though
 
forgot to mention that both my roommate and i have cars... cant believe how fast i just got a ton of information though, many thanks to everyone and ++k
 
no pass? good luck with that shit, place gets tighter by the minute. if/when they move public park up to palmer youll be a little safer, but hiking mile is sketchy these days
 
go to trillium lake camp ground and just keep driving through past some big houses and then you'll see it. its near trillium lake too, about a mile away. you can legally stay there for 30 days and thats 30 days from when some ranger talks to you about it.
 
Definitely be careful. They have a guy whose job is to watch for people who are poaching. If you do hike, hike up far lookers right.
