Hi guys, I have about 1700 to spend on a car. Is it possible to get a car for that price that will get me from point A to point B without falling apart for 2 or 3 years? If so, what make/model/year?
Don't get too technical please, I have no clue what I'm talking about when it comes to cars

look around in your paper and ads, check around and you could get a good deal for 1700 if you take your time.check for obvious things and bring a friend or relative with you who knows about technichal things to help you out with that aspect.

if you know someone selling that would be ideal, if notOlder Models Cars that could be cheap and somewhat decent: Ford Focus, Ford Ranger, Honda Civic, Nissan Maxima, Toyota Camry All these models will need to be prolly 1990's to be in your price range

oldsmobile/pontiac
dont get a high mile asian car, they will die. Americans seem to just fall apart, while the asian ones die all together at once

Don't beemers get expensive to keep up after 100k miles?
I'm probably gonna (gasp) get a job and make more money so I can get something halfway decent. My grandparents forgot about christmas, then felt so bad they gave me $2000 :D $300 went to my parents cuz i owed them for drivers ed. still win, but not enough for a car

Great idea, try to get about 4k then start car shopping, it will make it sooo much easier

Try and find an old subaru. My friend bought one for 500 bucks with just under 200k, now after like two years and seriously beating the shit out of it (i mean bombing down dirt roads, jumping it, drifting on tar, and hitting shit purposely) , it has like 220k and still fires up every time. Some of the most reliable cars out there imo.

old volvos are bomb proof, as are late 80's toyotas. avoid german cars as they are expensive to fix after a while.

I know dude my dad has a 06 subie with like 110k and he's only brought it into the shop once at 100k just to make sure everything was working fine. It still runs like new, its awesome

go Toyota, subaru or honda, and go to craigs list, there you will find list of cars for that price in you surrounding area, it is magical.

do not buy any old bmw mercedes or lexus or anything like that because they start to break down at 100k miles and are a lot of money to fix get a old civix or subie hondas are always great and wont break pm me if you need help

no, Just Empty Every Pocket. i love jeeps, but they're bad on gas, and they cost a lot to fix.

Buy a standard. I swear people who have standards treat them better. Not too mention the better gas mileage and control of your car.

See what the prices are are, go where the deal is. Something that's in decent shape but not expensive. First cars don't have to be awesome.
