Charles gagnier - innovative slide/grabs? (skimatic)

didnt search, so whatever

in ski matic, he does this tail/nose grab i think, looks sick. he also does this box that (for lack of a better term) im calling a tornado christ backslide i.e. fruitbooting terms.

what are they called?

maybe less people would call it fruitbooting if they didn't name tricks things like "tornado christ backslides."

I've got no beef with fruitbooters dude, yous guys do some gnarly shit, it was merely an observation. Also I think Gagniers wacky shit is cool, it's nice to see something a little different once in a while.

look guys im all for being different and such, i love everything about skiing but doing drop knee grinds and all those other rollerblading grinds arnt cool they dont even look cool, i give credit to him for trying them id imagine they would be hard to do, but skiing and rollerblading are 2 different sports so lets start relating ourselves to the mountains where we are from and leave those ginds out of it. cheers

i don't get where you hate rollerblading so much..i thinhk that some people blade with some much style. we should give em credit instead of hating them

When I first saw it I thought it was a balewolf but after further inspection I concluded it is just one of those intresting tricks he does.

i dont hate rollerblading, guys have sick style on them, im just saying that our sport should have its own individual look and scene, i know other sports feed off each other but if we are going to do that then do it with other sports not just rollerblading. but still i dont hate rollerblading its amazing what some people can do

his last double grab, in slow motion, was absolutely sick

at the premiere, we all got up and cheered

i think it looks sick

actually, drop knee grinds, AKA brokens, are not something id consider stolen from inline. actaully, i got them from DH/oldschool skating/surfing. a dropknee is a technique for carving, and its like exactly the same position. so, yea. and to say people are inspired strictly from inline is stupid. please dont tell people wat they should and shouldnt do. if you dont agree, dont do it. skiing is an idividual sport, and everyone who falls under the umbrella is what makes it a sport as a whole. we are a very widespread group, with roots everywhere from racing to freestyle. why try and narrow down the criteria of what a skier should be? do what you want, have fun, and put your own twist on the sport!

honestly u shouldn't be hatein on those things. we need to fear the double flip as sick as it seems look what happened to rollerblading after the double flip was brought about 2 years later rollerblading was out of x-games and is pretty much non existent in tv land, do we want that in skiing?

yeah in rollerblading that definitely is not called a tornado christ backslide slide. If that positioning of his skis were with rollerblades, it would be a top porn. werd. doesnt gagnier skate? or is that a rumor.

ahh the one-footed one? yeah in rollerblading its a backslide and a christ is when you put your skate on top of your skate thats on the rail...tech for sure. so yeah id say your right minus the tornado part. The whole christ thing is pretty messed up...if you think about how they came up with the name. On the cross...one foot over the other like they were nailed...i dunno.

wow, just thinking about all of these new grinds and shit is really confusing, you could seriously screw yourslef up if you fucked up one of these grinds

regardless of the way we view the tricks, whether they are nice or not. its that innovation that will push the sport. we will have to see if it sticks around. You see alot of one foot grinds nowadays when you used to see none and they were always ripped on (still kinda are). Maybe his moves will become accepted, if not who cares, we'll wait for the next guy to bust something new.

that is the worst looking grind i have ever seen, yeah wow he is being original, but seriously, i could slide a box with my head and say thats original and im trying to progress the sport and all that crap but its just too stupid and ugly looking to take seriously, same with the thing charles does.

Whether you like it or not, skiing is bound to continue importing tricks similar to rollerblading due to the fact that their dynamics are pretty much similar, and by that, I mean that they both are composed of individual leg movements. It won't be long before you start seeing anti-christ grinds and sweatstance style tricks like kind grinds and other one footed grinds like backslides.

so is figure skating. i started skiing because its the best way to get down a mountain, this has nothing to do with rollerblading so stop telling me it does. like someone else already said, it might be tricky and hard but it looks fucking rediculous. go skiing, or wait for the snow to melt and then go play with your fancy wheely shoes.

Um, ok... so then explain to me the process that goes into spins and tell me that that in no way resembles ice skating? I'm in no way using the dichotomy between rollerblading and skiing to explain how "one gets down the mountain", where' talking about park tricks, which as I explained earlier is an amalgamation of other sport's trick vocabulary, primarily rollerblading. So either have a cogent argument to retort with or else shut the fuck up.

yeah but not those, he is pretty much grinding with his leg, if that counts as a grind why dont we just flop on our stomachs and say thats the new cool progressive thing. plus people are doing different grinds, like jf in lss he does like an overcrook while tailpressing, and nose and tail presses are getting bigger, pollard does that like 5050 nose press in the line video, there is tons of stuff we can do other than copying other sports pretty much exactly. leave the leg crossing crap to rollerbladers.

So, overcrook isn't copying another sport?

Oh ya and skiers obviously invented nose and tail presses.

50-50 nose press? doesn't Pollard snowboard also...

It's ok, you're in denial. A lot of really core guys go through this. You're probably telling yourself, "God damn, rollerblading is gay. I'm way too cool to participate in a sport that even slightly resembles something as faggity as rollerblading." Then subconsciously you're telling youself, "My sport is so much closer to snowboarding... that seems to be pretty cool."

The first step is coming to terms with yourself. It'll be ok dude dont worry. At some point dude you'll realize that any arial stunts and slides/grinds done in skiing occur with two separate devices attached separately to each foot.

I had a hard time with this at first too. I wanted to be as cool as snowboarders. But hey, I like skiing right? Yeah skiing is a great way to come down from a mountain. But onces you leave the snow you're entering a whole new world... that dervives from something that existed before modern newschool skiing.

seriously though I have yet to understand this argument. I have been rollerblading since junior high school...so about 7 or 8 years now. I have seen so many ignorant fucks talking shit about skateboarding when they rollerblade, rollerblading when they skateboard, skiing if they snowboard...does no one understand it is allll the same idea? You are not playing football, soccer, or basketball. You are all out there for the same reasons...to have a good time. There is no team involved, and I think that is why I have always been a fan of this shit. It's all about progressing and expressing yourself. I think it has been getting better lately, now you can go to skateparks and finally see some interaction between sports. Yeah there are people who suck at skiing, skating, snowboarding all that, but you cant deny the fact that there are people out there who kill it, and deserve to represent the sport to at least TRY and shine a little bit of light into the close-minded heads. Watch some of these skate sections and explain to me how they are any less worthy than yours. Thanks.

if you want tech. watch the last one. ridiculous. werd.

word. as sweet as the overcrook is, as it says in freeskier its escencially(sp) a skateboard trick. now i'm not saying we should take all our cues from rollerblading, but i do think it wouldn't hurt to integate some aspects of it into skiing, as we've already done with snowboarding and skateboarding.

yeah but those dont look anything like what it looks like on a snowboard. skiing is the only sport where your on two boards so we get unique looking tricks.
