Changing up my Style.

So im completely new to this forum but i've been looking at various threads for a while now and you all seem like a helpful bunch.

Im 22, ive been skiing since I was 5 off and on. I did a season in Meribel, France last year and improved massively but only on piste. I didnt really get chance to do much off piste in france because it wasnt a good season for snow and i was so worried about injuring myself and getting sent home that i barely touched the park.

Im now in whistler with a 2 year visa and since ive been here my off piste skiing has improved massively.

But NOW, i want to be able to hit a few small kickers and side hits without feeling completely out of my depth. I even find it difficult to go over the smallest of jumps comfortably. Friends find it weird that i can smash it down a piste or a powder bowl but cant do anything in the park at all.

So my question is, has anyone been in a similar position to me but progressed to the position i want to be in? any tips or advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you in Advance!

Pick up a pair of balls at sportchek, and hit the slopes. You know how you stand when you are taking a shit and need to walk to the cupboard for more toilet paper. Hit a kicker like that. Be sure to pop.

The pop is really important. Its the foundation of everything... you have to literally crouch a bit and jump off the lip.

Once you get comfortable, just hit a fuckload of jumps. Use the small/medium parks and get super comfortable in the air.

Also, really practice switch skiing. If you're really comfortable skiing backwards at speed, its much easier to takeoff and land that way. Can't ski switch, can't jump switch.

Finding your own style is more of a personal exploration thing. Once you get a few basic tricks, start trying all kinds of grabs and shifties and shit. Look at things you like out of movies/edits and emulate them to find what feels best for you.

dont be a pussy

SOOOO TRUEE

I sucked ago years ago but really progressed once I grew a pair. You will probably get injured just because of the nature of the sport but you'll get over it.

I think this might be my main issue 👍🏻

Seriously, if you dont nut up its hard to progress without making yourself do somethin scary until ou get comfortable wit it

I found doing a lot of tiny nollies off of any small bumps helped me get balance to stay composed and look good in the air. Just sort of pop forwards with weight on the tips of your skis and keep your arms up and out to further stabilize yourself.

start small, launching head-walls and small bumps on the sides of trails etc, you don't necessarily have to be in the park to catch air. keep weight and hands forward, and like everyone else said- pop off the bumps. spot the landing and focus on that

Get your confidence up and then jump from a big jump as what you find to be abig jump and then the small kickers will be fine for you. Once you have jumped frome the big jump you will realise that their not so bad.

if you want style, look no further than The bunch just the sickest ive ever seen. i forgot what its called but its sick. LSM is in that too and he slays. He does this mad straight air, and that i think is super progressive.

We should have a style based comp, where we have bowls and spine trannys, I was thinking Les Arcs? I would invite candide, of course LSM and adam delorme, and john brogan and abm and a couple more steeze. Not torin cause he's lame as am i right?

I was on the chair with bobby brown and he said comp skiing is shit now, like so shit. he hates it. But i think its mainly because he sucks compared to abm who did the nose butter triple

i hate comp skiing, it is pushing the sport badly. If we had more style, we wouldnt have to take so much risk for such little reward

I am 13 and I can already nose bud three but also can see the sport changing and moving to dark dark places

i ski breck all the time and i can vouch for most of the skiers based out in colorado.

any dudes from colorado i have spoken back a brother up

peace and steeze
