Changing Full tilt Cables

I got smaller top and middle cables... i cant figure out how to remove the cables from the boots.. how do you release them???
 
I know for the top cable you need to pull the shell back on the opposite side of the buckle and it loops in there with a few different options to extend/shorten.

I was also wondering if it's possible to get shorter lower cables? doesn't seem like it since the original cable barely reaches the notch as it is.
 
your best bet is to remove the cuff. once the cuff is off all the cables are exposed and it's super straight forward
