Hey NS I was just wondering If there was anyone here who could give me a bit of help about whats around Chamonix at Christmas?

Im gonna be there from the 19th to the 26th of December and I want to know If Its worth buying stuff there and good places too do so.

Also, good spots to ski with rellatively mallow terrain (just not steep) as got meningitis early this year and lost all of my balance so I need to learn to ski again.

Any help would be good and If any fellow nsers want to help me out while I'm there that would be even better.

Thanks,

Campbell

it seems to me if your looking for someplace to get your ski legs back, there would be better places to go than Chamonix. Isnt chamonix known for being gnarly as fuck? idk i just think there might be better options, where you could slowly progress back to where you were, without worrying about things like falling into crevasses and whatnot.

The gnarly shit is on Les Grands Montets and on Aguille du Midi.

There is more mellow terrain in Chamonix if you ride the Brévent or Balme area. You can also go to the nearby Les Houches and Les Contamines.

If you want SUPER MELLOW terrain you should go to the neighboring Mégève.

Chamonix isn't only famous for it's gnarly mountaineering terrain, it's also famous for excellent quality snow and lots of it.

There are plenty of places with mellow terrain around Chamonix as ^ he said. Les Houches is the mellowist and has some little jibs if you're into that. Brevent and Flegere are also not too bad and have some ridiculously fun shit to jump off of and jib around on allll over if you find yourself getting stronger faster. My fav place is Des Grandes Montets though. It is gnarlier for the most part, but you could handle it. There is an area I liked to call the magic forest, which is in the trees at the bottom of Grandes Montets, its pretty mellow and I could ski there everyday for years without getting bored. And correct me if Im wrong, but if you were to get a week pass to Chamonix, you can ski any mountain throughout the valley and the buses take you whereever.

^^^ as everyone has said, it's got to be Les Houches at the start of the Chamonix valley. Super mellow and I think there is even a cog train to get you up there. Otherwise Les Grand Montets is the place and has a park with greens - blacks; might be fun at the end of the week!

Thanks, but I just want some powder and well spaced trees with maybe a bit of groomed stuff.

Im 13 by the way and my balance is unbelievably bad. I know Cham isn't the place to go but the parents of me have their minds set on going there so I can't change that.

Yeh so I have skied Cham, there are parts that are CRAZY steep. But the wonder of Cham is its different terrian. There are 3 main ski sports. Les Grand Montaire out of the three is by far the easiest terrain. La Flegere and La Brevent are really steep.

Also the town is really nice, if you want to buy stuff there, everything is reasonable.

Its a sick place have a good time.....

i was just there in march an i only skied grand montes or somtin like that but it was decenttly steep defiantly a fun place to be!!!!!!!!

Ok, I think that means I'll be set for terrain.

Unfortunately I've never paid retail price for any of my skiing stuff so I need like crazy low prices.

School!!!!! yay.
