Chairlift etiquette, whos in the wrong?

i was up at blue this sunday,

some hockey bros probably weighing 250 lbs each squeeze on the lift with me, not enough space, im sitting on half a seat.

then they pull down safety bar it smokes me right in the head. with the bar on my head, i look at them and say "could you at least look before you put the bar down?"

they get all defensive at start talking shit and saying theyre waiting for me at the top and that i dont own the hill. were these guys douchebags or would you say the same?

Its actually crazy how much this happens. On a busy day at Killington I'll get smoked at least 3-5 times a day and early season I had a brand new sexy looking helmet and it kept getting scuffed, boy that really got me to say some shit to people. A lot of the time its people that do it as they sit down. How are you afraid to fall 2ft and sometimes my feet are on the ground still. Midweeks it basically never happens maybe one time. I'll preface this and say I have no issues with bar down but every time I get on a lift on the weekend Im cowering waiting for a jerry to beam my dome.

peeps at my local are so good about this that I did even know people were assholes about it, I can maybe think of 1 or 2 times in the past 6 years where people haven't asked before.

also like, when I teach a lesson and we have to ride with other peeps its policy to have the bar down and I would never even think about not asking. fuck even when I am just with the kid on the lesson I say "bar down" or something like that

yea but do you check peoples heads are clear of the path of the bar before putting it down?

take control of the bar as soon as you get on, its YOUR job not to hit yourself on the head then

i guess thats true. guess its on me and im in the wrong.

Should have channeled alpha chad energy and just broke the bar entirely with your head when they were putting it down

Yeah man you gotta watch out for that, at PC people just pull the bar down without saying anything 9/10 times.

People should yell out “bar” before putting it down. Pretty obvious. Also get smoked like a couple times a year.

if i get on the lift with some randos who look like they’re bar people ill grab bar and bonk them first. if you aint first youre last

the bonker has now become the bonked

this always happens with random people or an example yesterday i was squeezed on to a 4 seater and they all went over to my side making the lift handlebar on the side hit me right in between the legs. not a fun time

so...

general consensus is that more than half of people check before they put the bar down.

but,

if you get smoked in the head, its your own fault. and im in the wrong for bitching about it.

is that right?

At my local we have a chairlift where the bar goes down automatically, I hate that fucking pice of shit also there is this little Pice that goes between your legs so small kids don’t slide under the bar and I squeezed my balls like three times this season already.

you dont know the struggle until u come to a euro resort. in France it was literally every single time I got on the lift I got smoked from people putting the bar down before our skis had even left the ground

didn't help I wore a pack inbounds to carry all my darts and charcuterie which means I sat further forward on the chair and was a super easy target for groms

but yea those guys were douchebags it really doesn't hurt to look left and/or right before u put the bar down, not that it should really go down unless the lift is particularly sketch

If some frenchmen gave me the smoke like that I would have tweaked.

i especially like when people slam the bar down and it has the little divider things (pic) that way you get a peg to the thigh and a bar to the dome. double whammy

Definitely not in the wrong tho people suck with that shit, I’m lucky I’m at a small hill that isn’t very busy. I ride by myself a lot and the lifties are chill with me taking a whole chair to myself because lines are short

Try being on the tall side. Dividers wacking you, not just in the thigh but head or balls or what not sucks way worse than just the bar.

My best advice is to size up people as you line up on their chairlift and bar skills.

You’ll get better at spotting “jittery John” and uncle “my kid is gonna fall off and I’ll sue you”, before you load.

Every once in a while someone will surprise you and be a spastic maniac when they seemed so calm 2 seconds ago!
