Chairlift Bomb Drops...

So we pretty much had what you could call a powder day here in MN, and me and a bud dropped of a chair into some pillows at Afton. Wasn't high up, really light snow. Well, we got busted and had our passes immediately pulled. I understand that it wasnt the smartest idea, but I dont think it should be grounds for a pass removal. What do you guys think?

Jumping off of chairs can fuck them up, also against the rules of the ski area, hence why they take your pass. Idiot.

I think that it grounds for pass removal. At the bottom of each chair there are specific rules posted somewhere and not jumping off the chair is one of those rules. You could derail the chair by jumping off of it, causing people to be stuck for a long time and requiring the maintenance guy to come out and fix it. I have never seen the point of jumping from the chairlift. Drops are far more fun anyways, plus you don't risk your pass being pulled and you don't risk fucking up a lot of people's days by knocking the chair off the line. Dumbass.

Hey ease up a bit, I didnt realize that I could fuck up the chair. And no it wasnt my season pass. And lastly, there werent signs posted that banned jumping from the chair, only a clock and the lift number

positive feedback for jumping off the lift is probably not gonna happen, although i could be wrong...

It's probably on the back of your pass, or in the paperwork for it. Something you had to sign.
But yea, jumping off can mess them up.
Some chairs will bounce up and down super hard and make other people fall off too. I was on a chair and someone jumped in front of me, the chair probably traveled a good 6 feet up and down somewhat violently. It wasn't a big deal for me, but it would have been for a grom.

Yeah jumping off can cause the cable to derail--potentially injuring and/or killing people on the chairlift. It doesn't really take a course in physics to understand that. And it's definitely grounds for getting your lift ticket pulled. You got very lucky.

Whatever you do, don't do it at Buttermilk, they'll slap you with a $3,000 fine. Literally.

id be so fucking pissed if i lost my pass. i did it once but i was super paranoid for like 5 minutes after

ski resorts can charge you for a bunch of bullshit. I know someone who just got popped with a 1,000 dollar fine at squaw for getting caught using someone elses pass.

why would u want to jump off the chair in the first place??? it could kill ya pluse if its a pow day dont u want to ski a full run of pow?? and thats just plan stupidity. the only reason i would jump off is if the chair gets stuck and people have to evactuate but only if its a couple feet off the ground or starts moving backwards

If it starts going backwards. Anything less than a 60ft drop makes sense for me. Ski lifts going backwards = your fucked. Anything above 60 feet I'm just going to accept death.

Theres a really slim chance but the chair lift can de-rail and hurt everyone on the lift pretty seriously and even though the chance is super slim as a mountain it's their responsibility for the safety of everyone so they have to be strict.

lets take it easy, jumping off the lift is sick. but the key is to have someone on the same chair stay on so it doesnt buck so bad. and i gotta admit, its definitely a legitimate reason to get your pass pulled. at least it was just a day pass

pep does a small one in the hit list, and he's the man. . .

i reckon a harsh word/fine would be fairer than taking your whole pass, that sucks

some of my friends did this once, but they had a season pass, and it got "suspended" for two days

why would you jump off a chairlift haven't you seen the new FROZEN trailer, you're so lucky a pack of wolves wasn't waiting to tear you to pieces down there. TOO risky. whew...

No, a corporation cannot "charge" you, the state can charge you or the corporation can file a lawsuit against you. A ski resort has no jursidiction to enforce fines other than denying you future lift tickets/calling the police to enforce trespassing if they ban you. You could just ignore the fine and stop skiing there.

haha, yah ive bomb droped off a lift before, but i didnt get my pass revoked, hehe just a bad glare from the lift dude

I'm not going to lie i jump chairs sort of often but I never knew the repercussions that it could cause.

obviosuly ur not supposed to do it but its fun as fuck. if you have a friend still sitting on it when u jump off ten the chair wont bounce
