Center mounting is overrated

no i dont notice any difference at all. i had it center mounted, but then bought smaller boots and adjusted the heels forward to fit them, so now theyre 1 cm forward.

The initial mount for my Firstbloods was -5 from center, and they are way more fun at true center. It is certainly not overrated.

Sorry i really didn't explain myself. Here we go:

Everyone on here is like YEAH CENTER MOUNT YOUR POWDER SKIS YOU CAN LAND SWITCH!! or if someone gets a park ski OMGZ CENTRE MOUNT FOR SURE!!! But, i think its overrated. Everyone thinks omg park! CENTER MOUNT! but my first three years with twin tips, i had my skis at recomended (1080s and ar5s) and i learned with them like that, as my real skiing also progressed.

I just think telling beginner freestyle skiers that are also intermediate to beginner skiers to center mount is horrible. Example: candide. I dont know if anyone noticed, but he rides modern on all of his rossis. I'm just saying you dont NEED center mount for park skiing and i think people should be mounting their skis based on what else they do not just for the park.

Now its completely different if its a park use only ski or if you live where the mountain is 800 vertical feet.

it depeneds. i think centermounting a pow ski is one of the dumbest thing you can do, as you won't be able to actually ski it in pow without tip dive, making you ski backseat (not a good thing). now with rockered and superfat skis you are able to mount closer to center. for park i do like a center ski cause it makes switch easier, and it feels more balanced for rails and spinning. so i think it depends on the ski. i have my park skis at center (TMs currently) and my JPs are at -4cm from center, i would have gone farther back, but i do a bunch of backcountry jumping on them, and i like to ski switch in pow. also with the HUGE tails it makes it actually more running surface in front of the mount point.

Yeah, our good friend Landis is all about it, and FORWARD mounts his park skis. I've told him myself hes ridic but whatever, but going close to center on like hellbents is different because you dont have to lean back with your ass hitting the snow to ski over 6 inches of snow.

i specifically told my shop 5 times, i want true center. i saw a lady write 0 on mounting point, and said again i don't want them at this recommended line (pointed), said I want the true center of the whole ski, not true center as in reccomended.

come back 3 days later, skis are at recommended. said this is completely different from what i asked for, guy started threatening me saying how i could never ski at true, dad took his side, and all i got offered was a free remount. skis are still at reccomended

well, I ski a ton of all-mountain

but i love the park and just doing whatever i want all over the mountain

so i'm gonna mount my scratch's at "standard"

which is like -10 from center

the modern is like -7.5

i am all about center mounting, it has only helped me, granted i am on the east and if i go out west i might mount some pow skis further back...might

my hill is 90 vertical metres. IM getting new skis, and remounting my t-halls +3 of true centre! YAY!

when will you learn, a lot of old shop techs are not familiar with the term true center. you have to measure out the distance from the recommended lines, you may also want to draw a line where you wanted them mounted, this should work (unless you go to christy's, where some old racer shop tech will mount behind recommended to spite you)

MOdern is on Rossignols. Its a bit back of true centre. True centre is the exact centre of the ski.

winner. it is not that hard to prevent miss mounts. The majority of techs won't understand why anyone would want it past the recommended line. Measure and draw a line yourself. Put a piece of tape saying here then another saying not here. We have all heard numerous stories about mountings getting messed up so just take the precautions and do something about it.

i have my scratches mounted -1cm. my ant's are mounted 2cm up from suggested. i'd die if those things were mounted up any further than they are.

i totaly agree, ive been skiing one senter mounted skis forever( they are -2 from center), and i can ski park just fine, and ski switch fine. and even -2 is still kinda hard to ski in deep pow.

i have my ar6s mounted at like 2 fingers back from center, but if i need a bigger boot i wont go back i will probably just move the toepiece forward. i honestly dont notice that much of a difference. but i couldnt see mounting a powder ski at true center unless it was rockered. People always complain about tails washing out with center mounted skis and this was never the case with my old rossis. i love center mounting or at least like a finger back.

um, maybe its just me, but isn't it a bit silly people saying "i swear by -2" or whatever, when all skis are different, and are designed to be mounted differently? I mean sure, centre mount invaders, walls, anthems etc, but anything with progressive sidecut like seths, pe's or whatever, just aren't supposed to be mounted at centre, so surely your just downgrading their performance by mounting them there?

+1, forward mounting. I love it, it makes the ski so much more fun. The only way I would not forward mount would be for a powder ski.

i could shove my ARGS down your throat and my two pairs of joysticks up your ass too...

It also seems to make a difference how you ski. If you have been taught to be putting pressure on your shins the whole time, the ski seems like it should be mounted further back to allow the place you are putting pressure on to be right at center, not forward of it.
