so next week my family is going to mexico and im wondering if we need to do anything with our cell phones so we dont get charged a shit load when making calls and stuff when we're down there

also we are on verizon

and i dont know if the type of phone matters but my mom and i have iphone 4's and my dad and brother just have normal flip phones

we are going to be in a group of like 10 people... we are going to need to use our phones cuz we wont be staying together all the time
 
when im hammered somewhere with my cousin at 4 in the morning, and my mom wants to know where i am, chances are she'll be calling me
 
if you have internet through the sim card, make sure it's turned off. A friend of mine went to spain for 2 weeks and the entire period his phone was online....a month later he got like a 500$ bill ...
 
It doesn't make sense to me, why us Americans go to other countries and get drunk out of our minds.

Holy shit can't we just be responsible people and just enjoy ourselves without making us look bad?

No wonder why the rest of the world hates us.

Sorry this isn't a direct rant at you i've just seen so many people, my friends included talking about how they go to other countries and get wicked drunk. What's the point, you can't have fun just living life and exploring other countries?

Sorry, no I understand. I just feel like there would be so much more stuff to do in another country on vacation, then get drunk.

I do know though that my friend in Spain has to have a calling card to use his phone though, and he's on Verizon. That's the most help I can give. Sorry again.
 
Use a buddy system. No need for phones. Your mom's a crazy bitch anyway if she stays up until 4am just to call you and antagonize you about where you are. She's on vacation too...she probably doesn't give a shit what you do as long as you stay away from her so she can have fun and bang the pool boy.
 
i shouldn't have used that example... basically the only time i will need a phone is in an "emergency" situation, which wont happen anyways. i was just trying to find out if there was a way to change the settings on my phone so that i could use it normally, which it seems like i cannot. its 99 cents a minute calling and 50 cents per text for international.. so i guess not too bad i just wont be texting at all
 
bring a few peso's in your pocket and piece of paper with any numbers you might need. problem solved.
 
call verizon get the month mexico plan ($20) go on your trip, come back call and cancel and hopefully only get charged $5 like me

If u dont internet will stay on in the background and your FB will search for news automatically and sap ur money like theres no tomorrow...

Think its in settings>general>network>dataroaming>off.
 
The iPhones are already international phones so they will work almost anywhere when you step off the plane. But call Verizon and turn on international calling for like 20$ like someone said. I used my blackberry in Europe for 3 months and the first month cost me 3000$ because I didn't turn on international. Then when I activated it the last 2 months were my normal bill plus the extra 20
 
Not sure if this is gonna help because I'm on AT&T but when I went to Bahamas we did this thing were they give you like 50 texts and a certain number of minutes to talk and it wasn't that expensive I'd call up Verizon and ask them if they can do anything like that
