well that is what we are celibrating when we celibrate thanksgiving although I guess technically we are celibrating a short brake in the slotering of the indians.

oh well, atleast it is time off school that is all I really care about!

technically... im thinking its more about brotherhood and family and gratitude and whatnot now because all the indians are in casinos so we dont kill them anymore... but its also about turkey, and thanksgiving sales

I have to apolgize. I am thankfull, and that is generally how I see the holaday, just a way to give thanks and celibrate. But killing indians is what the ignorant puritians did, and thanksgiving is also about how the puritians sirvived with the indians help, only to kill them.

1)The pilgrims were not involved in land conflict with the Native Americans.

2)The early settlers in America enjoyed a 40-60 year long period of prosperity before relations between the two groups became strained.

3)Europans cannot be blamed for the fact that the Native Americans did not posses the neccessary antibodies to combat smallpox.

4)The holiday is quite religious in nature and the celebration was initially patterned after the Jewish holliday of Sukkoth, given the relgious character of the pilgrim communities.

5)The pilgrims are not the same group as the Puritans.

Every thanksgiving there is some idiot who brings this shit up. The puritians were no the ones who slaughtered the indians. The indians were killed indirectly through diseases like smallpox. It wasn't until manifest destiny took effect, and settelers in the west and the US calvary were ordered to kill all indians they found, and put them on reservations. Quit bitching and get your facts straight. Personally, I get three days off of school, so I'm happy.

about the smallpox thing, I know at first it wasn't intantional but haven't you heard that the settlers gave the indians blankets infected with smallpox?
