in light of McConkreys death yesterday i watched a couple of his old movies and newer ski base jumping videos. I told myself on the lift this morning to quit being a bitch and try something for him. Today I learned frontflips and flipped off of a cliff. R.I.P McConkey you are still an influence... thanks for watching over me today good buddy.

I think one of the coolest things to think about is the amazing amount of skiing and fun he had is his life. That was his job basically, to go heli-skiing and BASE jumping, image the millions of vertical feet he skied on unreal slopes in many different countries covered in deep pow. Which is a far cry then the lives that the other 99% of us has to lead. He had great skills and he lived a life that most of us could only dream of having, albeit a shortened one. He was a lucky guy.

i guess its all about how you view it.... i am proud of the things mcconkey achieved in his life and i realize how you are mourning.. but you should be pround of the influence.... the courage he had do to what he did in his life. bePROUD of what he did, dont mourn he wouldnt want that. Celebrate the amazing and influential time he had.. he had so much fun while he was skiing why wouln't you? that is what he would have wanted

Word dude. I ski in Indiana and our season is over here, but when I get out to PC in about a week I'm going to learn something new in his honor and dedicate a couple cliff hucks to him.

If you are looking for a film or documentary on Shane, check out Matchstick's "There's Something about McConkey". The film is a few years old, so it does not have any of his latest work, but that doesn't really matter.

Also, check out "Steep", it is a great documentary on Big Mountain Skiing, and it includes Shane. You should be able to find it at your video store.

Dont mourn his death, ive never met him, but i guaruntee you he wouldnt want you to mourn over him, no one does. Celebrate his life.
