So i have to write a 5 paragraph essay worth about 100 points on that censorship in public schools is unconstitutional.
I'm having a lot of trouble even getting this started and finding arguments that make it unconstitutional.
I need two supporting arguments and one opposing argument.
Any input/possible arguments or cases concerning freedom of speech and censorship would be great.
Thanks, +karma

yea i know it violates freedom of speech but after doing further research I have learned that students only have freedom of speech to an extent to which is "disturbs" the learning environment or "violates school policy"
which is where it gets confusing because I have no idea how to form a case refuting that

second thought that one might support you, but there is another Supreme Court case that i'm drawing a blank on

first amendment

But censorship in public schools has been ruled constitutional under certain guidelines. Like school newspapers are allowed to be censored. There was a big court case on it, sorry I don't remember the name.

Theres also laws about slander, libel, obscenities which curtail free speech

yo i got you, let me dig up my sources.

i just finished a 9 page essay on the CRC convention on the rights of a child. i'll hook it up.

use the example, i wanna say it was harvard, but dont quote me, where the kids wanted to hang confederate flags, and then also nazi falgs, to display freedom of speech. i believe there was a case and ruling on it. fuck its late i dont remember.

When i did it last year i did the case of the kid from Bellvue or Bellingham that in a speech delivered to the whole school he said a bunch of sexual enduendos(sp0

By censoring the information accesible in schools, it is keeing students from getting the very best education posible

argument against freespeech: could create a environment where bigotry and racism is tolerated

arguments for: Freedom of speech is in the constitution and therefore applies to all americans

If laws do not apply equally everywhere, then they lose meaning

anybody else here about the 5 kids who got kicked out of school for wearing American flags on Cinco de Mayo?

so much for freedom of expression

its not the paper, and i never said it was such an undertaking, all i did was just ask for you guys' input to help form some arguments and ideas to jump start my paper cause I was just drawing blanks on the intro.
now that i have some ideas my paper should flow easily. length of a paper is no big deal for me.

Why do you all have to be so belittling? Are you better than this guy because you're past the age of 5 paragraph essays? How about being a tutor instead of an asshole.

Freedom of speech is hindered in schools, because it violates everyones right to an equal education, this just means you can't get up in class and start yelling FUCK, it is by no means in my opinion a form of takeing away freedom of speech. I read a great book called Anthoer kind of Public Education by Patricia Hill Collins, its great and in the beginning it talks about a paper she wrote that would represent her school in which her teacher completely censored what she said and changed the meaning of her essay its a good example of censorship in schools. Read up.
