I know many people have said this or thought about this. I've been waiting at least 4 years for the Cat. to be replaced.

O well, just thinking about it. Yeah I know I go to the solar coaster and its a way faster but STILL.

Catskinner is a nice break though. Go hard in the park, hike some, then cruise down and hit catskinner. Catskinner is the perfect length/time for having some water and an energy bar before going back out.

^haha! funny thing you said that. Before I got hurt 2 months ago I went up with a guy (snowboarder)and midway up, he pulled a joint out out of his pocket and started puffing. ANd after I got off the chair and went down o the park... and BANG I crashed.

^Lol, sounds a bit like the NZ snowboarder I met. He'd never been snowboarding before he went to Whistler but on the way to the bus he'd always pull out a joint and have a smoke to get the confidence going. It worked for him, he thrashed it down Couliour Extreme in no time, straight down no hesitation.

But yeah Cat Skinner is a little slow but you get a good view of the park, only real problem is when its a windy day and over you get over that crest and the wind hits you.

i told them to put a mid station at tower 14 on catskinner, right where the A rail is at the top of the park...all they need to do is put in a mini tower and a ramp...it would reduce traffic at the top of the run too...

^ I heard that as wel, they wanted to develop all that bit over the back of harmony. Not sure what sort of time frame they were operating at. Yeah a mid station would be good coz most people who use catskinner don't want that extra part.

The ski area boundry in the harmony bowl area is going to be expanded to included the musical bumps, so there will be real avi control done, but there is not going to be a lift in there for a while at least. If you live in town and read the papers, you might recall that there was a land swap last year with BC Land and Water to trade land in the bumps for Fitz watershed to put a lift in. That will be sometime, but the boundaries should be changed for next season.

blackcomb will get a new lift this summer. you may have noticed the aluminum starting gates at all the lifts, they're counters to gather data to decide where to place it. on busy weeekends the heli films crowds and crowd movement as well... the word is that a new doppelmyar will be put from blackcomb road (blackcomb glacier ski out) to aprox. the top of the existing crystal chair. Part of the line has been cut for years and can be found off backstage pass. talk of a t-bone up flute has also beeen floating around-- not sure.

Yes, the line up Crystal has been cut forever, lots of folks know it as Cancerman, and the mountain is always looking to know more about skier visits and lines at chairs. However, there are no plans to put in a new chair this summer - its not in the capital plans. As I mention above, the plans for the musical bumps are for avalanche control, and the next area for development is peak to creek - which is going to see summer grooming to bring it into the ski area boundry.

There will be a new half pipe at Base 2 next winter for the 2005 World Snowboard Championships, right above where the summer jump pools are.

however, when/are they going to put a chair up the new west side of creekside? that shit has been cut for like 5 years and it hasnt opened, nor a lift put in.

two pipes would be sick. now if only they would get smart and put a rope tow somewhere close to the pipe. that would be sooooo ideal.

 
^Mm. Yeah, the thing is that a lot of resorts that have put them in, have taken them out again as they weren't really worth it. (and yes, there are some that are still there next to the pipes). This is something that we have tossed around before. They tend to take up a lot of space too - more than you would think - since the operations are regulated by the government (same part that looks after railways and rollercoasters apartantly or something random like that).

The new pipe is only going to be open at night anyhow - groomed on the midnight shift to give it time to set up, and roped during the day to have a fresh one at night.

^^Oh yeah, btw - clearly, your sources are not quite as in the know as you think they are, either that or you interpreted them wrong. There are no new lifts going in this summer. (basically, I see your lift supervisor, and raise you a mountain manager) That's great that you want to share information with the group and community here, but it does NO ONE any good to spread heresay and rumors.

Plans for lift installations get made on a tentative basis well in advance of any work that gets done so that the line cutting can get done on the forest management plan. That is why there has been a line cut up crystal zone (known as Cancer Man) for quite some time. If and when new lifts go in, they will be to service new terrain such as the Flute expansion or Whistler Creek. Much of upgrades and improvements to infrastructure that you will see in the next 3 to 5 years are based on decisions made around the 2010 games.

Capital improvements that you will see for this coming year include amongst other things that may not be as visible, the pipe at base 2 and summer grooming that we have already talked about here.
