k so im deciding what resort im gonna go to this march and i want to do some catskiing. so post a resort with some great snow in march and a catskiing operation or whatever you want to call it. also the only resorts i can go to are in north america. i was looking at going to mamoth cause i hear there park is sick but do they have any catskiing?

thanks

i kknow alta and vail have cat skiing, but i find it to be a waste of money, most places you can acces by a cat are easy enough to access on foot, heli skiing on the other hand ohhhhh so sick

HAHAHAHAH okay you know those really big things that groom the sides of mountains and make line going down the mountain to make it all smooth for the skiers that is a CAT and ppl use those to go backcounrty skiing hahah sorry i couldn't help but laugh

there are some really good ones in intererior bc, mustang is supposedly really good because you access stuff that usually only helis go to,. just do some research, and cat skiing is usually pretty cheap compared to heli, like 150 per person as opposed to 500

i would probably say go to steamboat if you want to rip some consistantly sick deep powder.

check it out herehttp://www.steamboatpowdercats.com/. I have snowmobile skied where vail's snowcat operation goes and its sick but I think that the steamboat operation would be a lot better. The reason being is I think that where steamboat operates there are much fewer skiers then up at vail pass. But I dont know, i have never skied up at steamboat, this is mostly speculation on my part and based on my experiences at vail pass.

this shot is what vail pass is all about, big wide open, not very steep terrain. I know there is some really gnarly stuff back there probably but this is probably very similar to the terrain you would ski with vail cat operation.

meh i dont want to do anything super gnar. i just want some pow and a good place to build a booter. i went backcountry touring in whistler and it was way to much work for the amount of skiing we did. and we tried to make a booter but we landed and just double ejected cause the bindings were touring bindings

ya, well i think steamboat powder cats looks sick, check out there videos if you get a chance. But anyways, umm I dont think most cat skiing places are down with dropping you and your friends off in the bc and waiting for you to build a booter and hit that shit up. Its more organized then that, you know like the group of ten people you are skiing with or whatnot rides up in the cat, then you all get out at the top and somewhat follow a guide or two back down and well specified route to the cat at the bottom. But i have never been, thats just the vibe i get from checking out websites and seeing people cat skiing at vail pass.

oh and if you want to tour but still have your normal alpine setup check out the alpine trekkers and bcaccess.com. They allow you to assend with skins but then click in at the top and rip the shit out of the gnar courior with all the convidence you get from normal bindings.

try powder mountain utah, thye havea cat skiing thing wherre u can can pay $7 for a single cat ride to the top of lightnijg ridge, ill be going there this year in march and snowbasin too, but they dont have cat skiing

Interior BC is the best because you have the best snow, low density and the operations are not near ski hills so the terrain doesn't get bombed out.

And as said above, unless you fill the entire cat with people who want to build/session a jump (after paying $200-300 to ski for a day) it's not happening. The entire group moves together, e.g. one guide skis down, the group skis down, tail guide skis down behind, everyone gets in cat and goes up again. If you want to build jumps just hike, go through a gate or come to Canada where you can exit the ski area anywhere you want (usually).
