Cat in college?

there are four of us, two of us want one, one doesnt, and one doesnt matter, we have a suite so theres one room and then two that go off, each a double, and a private bathroom, only problem mihgt be monthly room inspection

If you really have nothing better to do that care for a cat the go for it, but otherwise I don't see why you'd get one. With 3 roommates I can't see that you need the company.

if you can get away with it and you can make sure it wont piss everywhere and you wont make its life hell, go for it for sure

my brother got a kitten in a house of 6 guys. they said it gets anoying after a while and they usually thrown it around all the time.

I was thinking of taking my cat, Mittens, to collage.

Like if theres some annoying drunk girl then Calb3rt will be like "Mittens, KILL" and he'll pounce out from behind a support beam and cling to her leg, thus making her leave instantly.

speaking of cats where did the funny cat thread go i search barred maybe im just stupid can someone send a link

a chick at school had a small dog but then told everyone about it and someone got pissed off and told. id say go for it just dont announce it to every fucking person.

only if you know what you would do with it over christmas/ reading week. and who keeps it over the summer. you cant just buy a cat for one semester and give it back. well I suppose you could but it's really not fair.

They are hard in the dorms. Someone will find out. Trust me on this.

I live off campus and have two cats. They are awesome cats, but...it is very expensive. Vet bills are insane and food + cat litter for two cats adds up.

most likley they will make you give the cat away, in extreme cases yuou could get kicked out of the dorms.

this crazy because yesterday i was with a few people who wanted to try to get a cat and see if they could keep it in their dorm for the rest of the semester

my roommate has her dog up here, it's alright, i wouldn't bring up my dog though, cause im gone most weekends, and wouldn't want to leave the responsibility on my roommates that much. cats are better on their own though, so it's really up to you. i would say it's alright if it's your cat, though i wouldn't go out and get a new one.

no way you should get one we have nig pus the fat black cat. sort of a community cat it lives in two houses

You will be made to get rid of the cat.

There are actually two dorms cats here at UPS. They were cats that people tried to keep in the dorms, got caught, and were basically forced to put them on the street,

So now these two cats just live outside the dorms and people feed them.

Another to mention is space. You are in a suite, so it will be a bit better....but cats like to have a little room to move around.

Also, in small spaces their shit can stink pretty bad.

Again, I am all for having cats. I am a senior this year and have had my cats for....1.5 years. They are two of the coolest cats ever, so it really has been worth it.

But with cats comes tons of shit too. As I said, food and litter. One of my cats now needs special food which is more expensive. That same cat has had to go to the vet for emergencies twice now, which has cost me close to $2000. Also, I try to keep my cats inside (life span of a indoor cat is about 7x that I believe of an outdoor) particularly because I live about 1/2 block from one of the main streets in Tacoma. So if they get out, which will happen, trust me, you have to go searching and shit. Plus then they could get fleas, etc.

Not trying to scare people away from pets, but do be well aware of what it takes to keep a pet.

One of my cats now I essentially just took from an ex roommate of mine because he was so bad at taking care of him. And this cat, dante, and my cat, charlie murphy, were best friends. So when we each moved into difference places, I took him because this kid could hardly afford to feed him, was horrible at replacing his cat litter, etc. Also, it would have been too sad to split up the two cats as they are ridiclously gay for each other.

I wouldn't change anything about getting them, even with all the money spent. My cats all fucking awesome and provide many hours of amusement. But just be aware, it is not like getting a fish or something. Also, when you are trying to find another place later, having a pet can seriously make it hard to find a rental. Some people just don't like pets....

And since we are talking about them, and they are so awesome....here are my cats:

Dante likes beer boxes

poor thing, i give it two months.

just kidding, i wish i could have a cat here. instead i'm growing plants to keep me company.

I hate having cats. They get hair everywhere, and they get so damn annoying. I bet you will get caught in like two or three months.

Cats are great. Super entertaining and whanot, but they are a responsibility. I just dropped WAY too much money on vet bills over the past two weeks. That money was going towards a ski vacation that I wanted to plan for January and I got nothing for it except to hear that he's sick and there's nothing they can do.

Also keep in mind you live with other people. Two of whom dont want the cat. Dont do that to your roommates. If they're not interested dont go out and get one, it can only cause problems which you dont want since you all live together.

Not trying to denounce it or anything but if school says you cant have them, you cant just toss it out on the streets ya know

im in a suite of 6, 3 rooms and a huge comon room and our own bathroom. it was real cool for the first 2 weeks but now hes just annoying, his shit stinks, he scratches and bites like crazy, when ya try to do work he purposley gets into something so ya get distracted. like its cool when hes good and sleeps in your lap but its wicked annoying when hes knocking things over and getin into the garbage. and my suite mate that owns the cat is never there because she sleeps at her bf place and its like wtf its not my cat why do i have to take care of it. plus i dont like cats to begin with. and then if ya get caught im not sure what happens but it cant be good.

Very true.

And again, with roommates not wanting one. That's not fair to do to them. Having a pet is a big responsibility. Time consuming, and can get expensive if it's not perfectly healthy. You should re-think this. Especially so if they are not allowed in school. Why would you set yourself up to get in trouble? I say no.

And to the kid who has a ferret, be very careful. They are extremely prone to getting sick. They don't live long. And if it gets sick, it's going to cost you a lot of money. They also smell. As much fun as a ferret it to own, they should be very far down on the list of pets you should have.
