Carving your own skis

Lmao sure but where do you find the penguins?

Start below. It appears their main website is down but here's the forum link. There might be some archived stuff on NS somewhere and probably tgr. I'm sure the og folks know. Honestly kind of surprised no one else thought about doing this. Would have been a great quarantine project

Best to buy boards from a store as a freshly chopped tree will be wet and warp when cut. Sounds funny since you'll have to get them wet to be able to bend them into shape, but that's how it works. I've tried it with modern edges to slight success, you basically have to store them in a vice/ partial mold all the time or they will eventually warp depending on grain orientation and how they are sealed. Making a modern turn will be a bitch because you will have no torsional rigidity.

You can see in my pair that over the last few years (6+?) the camber has softened on one more than the other as I didn't store them or seal them properly. This isn't really an issue as I wasn't planning on ever riding them.

Those are sick! What about a pressure treated 6x6 then carve the shape out of the wood instead of heating it and bending it?

Doesn't work, because of the direction of the grain the tips and tails will simply snap off under any pressure. I'd recommend a hardwood like maple, ash, or birch, try to get as close to a rift cut as possible for the most strength. Hardwood so your bindings don't rip out after a few runs or falls.

I want to do this for a pair of skis. Should I just go out to the woods and chop a tree?

This movie looks incredibly stupid.

if modern animated films are this bad im going to kill myself if i have to watch them with my son.

i miss the days of non-preachy movies like the land before time and the brave little toaster.

Wall-e was a quality movie tho.

Surfs up was made in 07, wall e was made in 08. I’d much rather watch surfs up with my kid than some Fortnite shit or new age show

Um lolwut? This is easily one of the best surf movies ever. Never before has the feeling of about to get assblasted by a massive set on the horizon despite your futile attempts to paddle out been captured so well, penguins or otherwise.
