Carter beauford of dave matthews band

i saw my 4th dave concert last night, and i am by far convinced that not only are they among the best live performers to ever exist, but carter is hands down the best drummer in existence.

he's one of my favorite drummers, but making a statement like that on ns, or on any forum, is not particularly smart. Ever heard Carter play anything besides dmb stuff? Dennis Chambers, Dave Weckl, Marco Minneman, Tony Stewart, Buddy Rich, etc etc etc can be thrown in. Pretty much what I'm trying to say is; You'll probably get flamed.

beauford can slam...but c'mon, put him against weckyl, or bozzio and chambers? you might think that these guys are better than weckyl, but his theory is so much more evolved than any other drummer right now. buddy rich was close, but weckyl is in a zone.

this is suuuuch a subjective topic.. i think it really boils down to what style of music you're talking about.. has anyone seen carter's video 'under the table and drumming' ? he breaks down all his techniques and everything, its really worth the money if you're a drummer and are looking to improve your skills

I saw them at riverbend and the concert was amazing, they played so much old stuff, and WARREN HAZE came out and played with them, Warren rips up the guitar!

not really, weckyl is learned and superbly skilled in all genres of music. that is the mark of a great musician. don't get me wrong on beauford, he is sicwitit. weckyl is just on a different level of theory than these guys. for example, the way he fills out a run, breaks (so you can actually tell where he is at(not just faking and getting by)) and then comes back in with complete harmonic confluence and four independent beats rolling from every extremity. simply amazing, listen to him and you'll pick up on what i'm talking about.

you guys are forgetting steve gadd, neil pert, john blackwell, virgil donati, gene krupa, like fuck the list goes on. its so hard to say who is the best but he is definately a solid ass drummer.

i'm definitely not doubting weckl's abilities, but im saying its hard to say theres a 'best drummer' period. you wouldn't be able to pit weckl against barker or brooks wackerman, because they're obviously more trained in the alt/punk arena, and just the opposite. look at it this way, modern drummer magazine puts out a readers choice list of all the best drummers in their respective genres, not a 'best drummer, period' list.. so im confused why any of us think we're able to say someone is the best drummer across the board?! myself included!

this is how you tell who is the best...give weckyl a pennywise song and he'll rip it harder than anyone after one count. jazz, same. funk, same. samba, same. etc. etc. versatility my children.

p.s. its weird that you're on his nuts so much and know so much about his abilities but you consistently keep spelling his name wrong..

Eh? What's this? I used to be a huge fan, but over the last couple of months I've been listening to a lot of other stuff and DMB has taken the backburner. I used to be really active on a DMB board too, but then I found NS....so what's up with Roi leaving?

^good call, my bad, i have an employee who spells it weckyl and i always jack his name up too, haha. i've never seen his nuts either.

After seeing dmb live 3 times this is my oppion...

Carter would slam any drummer in a face off, except maybe Travis Barker of blink, but those two are for sure the greatest drummers ever. hands down.

I have a sticker that says "Can't hold no groove if you ain't got no pocket." It's a beauty. Just thought I'd share, since you're cool enough to understand.
