Cargo Pant Feedback

Hey NS,

I'm currently designing a baggy cargo pant and wanted your input:

1. Elastic waist with built in belt or elastic waist with belt loops for your own belt?

2. Pant bottom - elastic on main fabric, cinchable with draw cord, or the regular with boot gaiter? I am leaning towards regular - I think a cinch would snag too easily on ski brakes / trees and would rip out of pant.

3. Higher quality, more durable, stiffer, waterproof fabrics? Or cheaper fabric that blows around in the wind? Cheaper fabric means a lower price for pant with a shorter shelf life.

4. What colors do you want to see? Black is a given.

1 belt loops

2 regular cuff with no tapering at the bottom

3 heavier better quality material, also an embroidered bloom logo on one of the back pockets would be sick.

side note the bloom snow pants I bought from you like 7 years ago where some of my favorite pants I’ve owned.

Hey Jim,

so sick to see you are still not only running but also keep progressing Bloom.

You should take a look at the capeesh pantalonis if you know someone who owns a pair. Just for inspiration!

The heavy-duty, cordura-like material and the fit (including no zipper or cinch cord on the legs) makes them superior and

they are - in my opinion - the best pants out there right now.

Belt loops fs, having a belt is really what finishes the look and makes it so everyone isn’t matching exactly the same. i agree with homeskillet up above capeesh really is putting out the best looking and quality pants, if you could add some colors deep crimson would be dope

thanks for the tip! Capeesh is certainly well made. A big reason why I want to take a crack at this style of pant is because I'm not seeing much out there that is quality. I'm leaning towards a regular cuff bottom reinforced with cordura - think there could be a lot of issues with elastic or draw cords. The pant itself would feature a 20k ripstop that I've come to rely on over the years in so many production runs. Can't beat it.

I'm sold on the belt loops. Almost sold on regular cuffs. And yes, it's time for some higher quality fabrics on this style of pant. That makes me happy, glad you've got a lot of use out of them.

thanks brother. I really like that idea - a deep, dark red on a matte fabric could look really cool and subtle.

Colours: red, purple, blue

Cuff: regular with some tough fabric around the cuff to keep it from getting cut. Cordura or something

Elastic with loops for sure. As for the bottoms, I’ve never had a cinch break but you would know about the durability better than me. As long as the bottoms are durable I’m happy

Belt loops

regular. But add a way to put elastic cord in there for people who want to cinch them like some loops or a slit in the cuff to string it through, my fly low pants have a snap cinch

I would want the lighter material for spring skiing. for me if the weather is bad I’m wearing bibs

Black and white rip stop style grid pattern please

1. Just belt loops plz. And maybe an easy suspender attachment loop thing.

2. Beefy ass cuff please. For the gaiter maybe one of those cinch straps to tighten them around the boot.

3. Here in the PNW most fabrics even with loads of waterproofing spray get pissed through and I'm living with a severe case of swamp ass on rainy days.

4. Since I can remember I always wanted pants this color "#a33796" with black knee square things on the outside. Like the flylow knee things on the baker bib.

A capeesh pantaloni with normal sized cargo pockets(zippers, none of that Velcro shit), beefy gaiters and most importantly made with proper burly ➡️3 LAYER⬅️waterproof fabric. Please make a pair of nice and baggy 3L cargos???

Let me refrase that:

"Loose fitting 3L cargo"

Super baggy stuff kinda looks tacky, and it's definitely gonna die down a bit in the coming years

this but not because of the bibs, i’m not really a bib guy. i like light waterproof stuff cuz when it’s warm i can just wear ball shorts but when it’s cold i can wear some thick thermals and sweats. then the pants are versatile as long as they’re waterproof

That’s true, if waterproof I think they need huge vents on both sides of the leg

Regular boot gaiters and belt loops. Also decently waterproof fabric is needed on snowy days here. No back pockets, I do no know anyone that uses back pockets on snow pats

What kind of cargo you guys carrying in your cargo pockets? I have always just used the upper pockets on my ski pants and have never used lower pockets, which I always figured were designed more for aesthetics than practicality.

[tag=288204]@21CABBAGE[/tag] is there a reason you prefer zippers over velcro? I'm currently leaning towards a velcro cargo pocket with a flap - I like the layout of the pants Maude Raymond has been sporting recently. If you guys would all prefer zippers over velcro, lmk.

As far as fabric, I'm leaning towards a 2L 20k Ripstop that I've used in many production runs. It's a tough, hq waterproof fabric and will keep the pant affordable ($150 - $200). If I went with a 3L fabric its likely I'd have to charge around $250. If that's something you all want to see, lmk!

Appreciate all your feedback, looking forward to making this pant!

1. My cargo pockets don't see much actual use besides the occasional beer or sandwich. Since I don't use mine much, I'd prefer companies make them smaller so they don't catch the wind when I'm going fast like my Jiberish and R3 pants.

2. I can see the appeal of zippered pockets but flaps are a pretty classic look and are likely cheaper to produce, so I'd personally vote for flaps. If I'm going to invest in premium features in your snowpants I probably wouldn't prioritise zippered cargo pockets. I do like having waterproof-zippered upper pockets for my phone, keys, etc. Also flap pockets on the butt are dope too, I think cargo pants that don't have those but have them on the side look goofy.

General improvements on cargo pants I already own:

- at least 15k waterproof with sizable vents so I can wear them throughout the pnw season

- non-insulated shell material so I can layer underneath or wear touring (also not too baggy so uphill steps don't feel ridiculous)

- not cuffed, not ridiculously baggy (long inseam worn low looks better than balloon pants imo)

- liner tight enough to actually hug the boot - my Jiberish's are mad loose and fill up with snow on pow days

- mini pocket inside left pocket like jeans have for my lighter

- 2-3 layers of material on the inside of the pant legs around the boots so my edges don't rip up my pants while missing mute grabs. This happened on my flylows and then my brakes would occasionally get caught in those rips midair... those airs are always the most terrifying

Really appreciate you taking the time to incorporate NS feedback! Looking forward to these.

I just don’t like Velcro so I’m probably in the minority here but I would rather have a zipper or even a snap closure.

cargo pocket for me isn’t used much, if it could fit like 1 or 2 beers that’s about as big as I’d ever need

imo 1, belt loops fs, 2 regular w cinch sewed into the inside so it wouldnt get caught? ive ripped apart my big strides by opening boots w the cuff down, shit sucks, 3 higher quality ripstop/heavyish weight material fsfs. i don’t personally know specific fabric, 4 grey variant, dark blue, sage green? different colors on the liners of pockets n stuff/thread is sick too

Yes perfect for all those times that your belt/waist is hidden under a jacket

I use my harlaut’s cargos every day. Big pockets are nice if I’m carrying a drink up to the park or after lunch

cargo im carrying:

- an extra pair of cable-headphones for back-up. if i forget to put them in my jacket or if i leave my jacket in the car/ backpack

- chapstick/ blistex

- a lighter

- pocket ashtray

- a small flat file to detune edges or to file down small bumps in rails, etc.

sometimes im also carrying a small piece of skatewax

velcro vs. zipper:

capeesh pantalonis have both. everything that needs faster access and can handle a bit of moisture (lighter, pocket ashray, chapstick, etc.) goes in the velcro pocket, everything that should stay dry and should not get lost (f.e. headphones) go in the zippered cargo pocket.

you are well prepared. Speaking of headphones, are most of you using bluetooth / airpods or wire headphones? I ask to determine whether or not I should include an interior wire feedthrough.

I use wired earbuds. Im hella scared an airpod would fall out

More than happy to pay and extra few $$ for a proper pair of 3L pants. Zippers are just nice for pocket security, plus if any sort of snow gets on the hook and loop itself it won't stick together and close.

you guys are super helpful, thanks. I've been working on sizing the past couple days, it's been excessive, but I wanted to get it right. Going with a longer outseam with a very slow taper towards the bottom. That way, fabric will stack nicely. Broadened the circumference of legs a bit, but avoided the excessive balloon look.

I was never really a fan of cargo pants and thought the cargo pockets were only for the looks. I used to carry everything in both of my front pockets or in my jacket. After getting the pantalonis i started using the cargo pockets and now i am super happy to have them because they keep me somewhat organized and give me extra comfort.

A totally underrated feature on the pantalonis is the zippered lift-pass-pocket on the left "upper ass-side". Game-changer for me!

Personally i only use wired headphones but a wire feedthrough is unnecessary in my opinion. At least it isnt something I am missing!
