Careers that let you ski....

Just wondering today and thinkin about a future career NOT one in the ski industry but one that gives you time in the winter to ski. Im not planning on gettin a lifetime job in the ski industry but I really would like to get a career that lets me ski a lot in the winter. Does anyone have any ideas? I thought anythin involving landscaping and workin on a golf course cause in the winter that shit is shut down when snow hits. I was really looking into becoming a golf pro but I dunno if the golf course out west and up in new england let you stay when the snow its the golf course. From what i hear u hav to move south where its warm. Anyway, if you could stay that would be badass to ski in the winter and golf in the other 3 seasons. Anyone have any other ideas like this? That you can goto school for possibly and major in?? Let me know.....im NOT talkin about a job in the ski industry better yet a job that will be less hectic and give me time off in the winter. Thanks

Outside sales. My buddy was able to get 70 plus days in each of the past 3 seasons because he would get his work done in 3 or 4 days and ski the others. No one is there to babysit you and you work out of the office most of the day. Plus he was making around 70K. Not bad for your first year out of college.

He majored in Finance and had his minor in communications. College majors mean nothing unless you want to be in medicine, chemistry, or accounting. 2 of my friends work for Goldman Sachs Investment Banking and they studied English. All you need in a sales environment are solid communications skills, and those are not taught in a classroom, they are innate. That is what they will be looking for. Sales fields that allow for ample free time and will allow you to earn 50K+ are sofware, telecom, drugs (pharmecutical), medical equipment (big big money), copy machine (Xerox), ect.

be an environmental impact assesor. when a ski resort plans new runs or development, they need an impact assessment. of course they will only want the best, so better go to uni until you have atleast your masters.

it costs a shit load of money to start or buy a Mc D's, like something like a million or more(really rough Est). so to buy 3 or even one you would need to rob a couple of banks....

the thing that baffels me is how everyone always mentions ski area management, but my thought is if you get a career in ski areas then wouldnt you be working during ski season, that means less time on the slopes because you are working to satify your customers who are paying for lift tickets and food sales. so its kinda like yeah you will be at the ski hill a lot but you will be skiiing less because you gotta work more during ski season because thats the busy time of the year

I'm currently studying hotel management, this will allow me to travel for cheap, and also work at some of the top resorts in the world if I play my cards right. It's all about the benefits. Work during the day and ski at night, cheap or free passes, it's all in the worx. It's already brought me here to Aruba for an internship (well my parents live here), but it's the opposite of where I want to be, sandy beaches dont do it for me.

Open a hot dog stand, if you do it right and have the right location, you can work all summer(barbecueing!! fuck yes!) and ski ALLLL winter

we all talk about skiing so much when we grow up but are we still going to be that intersted when we just cruise or just ski pow. I mean in 15 years we arent gonna be hucking ourselves in the pipe. Im kinda worried i wont care about skiing once i cant freeski...Anyone else think like me?

Wolfmansbro: thats EXACTLY what im talkin about. I mean why work in a ski area and ruin your passion for the sport but working at it so much? I just looking for an idea to have less hours in the winter and I can enjoy myself...i hope a golf pro is that one idea.

to the kid who says there isnt anything after we get older, you are just stupid. i could ski the rest of my life and never touch a jump for the rest of my life and enjoy skiing even more. if your only reason you are skiing is becuase you are in the park then you should be on a snowboard. i know 60 year olds who are more crazy about skiing then me. my friends dad use to drive us 8 hours in october just to get on the slopes that early in the season. so yes we will all be just as passionate about skiing.

chef at whistler ski in the morn go to work aroun three or four until 10 or 11

if you get a job bartending at a really fast paced plce, you can really make bank, and if its the right hrs you can ski all day or most of the day and work in the evenings

First get a part time job at the resort. Even if its picking up the garbage, or being a ticket scanner. You would only work a couple days of the season, but in return, free season pass, huge discounts on food and other things, plus a locker to keep all your crap there. Then find a full time night job. Anything that will give you your days off to go skiing.

definatly a career in the military, i was training to become a 2nd lt while at the Univ. of WA. But i realized i was quiting that last week when i rememberd how little i would be able to skate/ski/wakeboard

-If people don't want 'Posers' in their sport they should quit skiing and take up knitting. I highly doubt that anyone 'Poses' as a knitter. -Jibtech
