Carbon Monoxide? Help!

having a mini freakout here
i think theres a Carbon Monoxide leak in my house
it was beeping once every 20 seconds
so I pressed the reset buttonnow its been quiet for over an hour
its got its little green "on" light on
but no alarm
it beeped over an hour ago...maybe the sensor was dustyidkwhat do, NS?
 
if your car was running in a garage and the door to your house was open, that can set it off.

happened all the time at my parents house.
 
CO is an incredibly deadly gas. It is odourless, and colorless, and typically will pool at the lowest points of a house/basement. I would not fuck around with CO in the least, I would consider calling a fire dept. even to just ask what they suggest. You cannot tell you are dying from CO, you just pass out and never wake up. Even if you are exposed to CO for a period of time, it can change your life forever for the worst. Better to call a fire dept and ask advice if you even question it ONE bit. No joking matter.
 
try changing the batteries. if it continues, start opening some windows, especially around boilers and things like that.

you most likely will have to call the FD to get them to come with a gas meter and check it out and help you fix it. unless you can call like a plumber or something to take a look.

if you call the FD though, there is really no way to get them to not rush over and make a big deal about it.

im a volunteer firefighter and we treat CO alarms like any other alarm and rush over with lights and sirens and big red trucks
 
that is a very good answer, call a non emergency line and ask, cant hurt. or find a user manual to the detector and look it up
 
mine does that when theres a power outage or when the battery is low. switch out the batterys and see if that works
 
oh wait no, i think it would make a lot of noise if it were an alert, it's probably low batteries. change them and make sure, maybe open a few windows.

oooh i forgot to mention its plugged into an outlet... it DOES however have backup batteries.also, I'm tired cuz this is past my usual sleepytiem.idk guys, it beeped; i pressed reset; it hasn't beeped in over an hour

well your power isn't out if you're on NS, and it'd be going crazy if there was CO. so look up the manual online and see what a beep means. i mean unless you're REALLY tired then i guess it's acceptable. lulz kidding. look it up.
 
I am a mechanic and CO is a huge deal in my industry. I wouldnt fuck around with it, but thats just me.
 
My detector does that occassionally... Just change the backup battery. I could never figure out why mine kept beeping, but when I went over and looked, it said "LO BAT". Probably no big deal.
 
CALL 911 YOU DUMB FUCK. CARBON MONOXIDE IS A HORRIBLE GAS AND WILL DEFINITELY KILL YOU IF YOU PASS OUT AND THERE HAPPENS TO BE A LEAK.

I have never in my entire NS career seen so many serious responses to a thread in NSG - I'd get out and take it easy just purely for that reason, I'm kinda scared right now haha
