Ok so i was looking into getting a new car and i really want a VW Jetta. So does anyone else here have one or know anyone that has one, that could tell me how they are? like how are they for gas and how do they run?

meh kind of a chick car. Plus german cars are expensive to maintain and get parts for.

Do your self a favor and buy a truck or suv. Toyotas are good.

idk my uncle has one and i like the looks and i thought it ran pretty good, so i was just trying to get some input.

Parts aren't THAT expensive.. I mean VW is fairly common in the U.S., unlike BMW. Personally (sorry to be unpatriotic) I'd rather get a Honda Civic because they get good MPG like a Jetta, parts are CHEAP, and adding a Turbo kit will make it fun as hell (and it wont be hard).

are you planning on driving in the snow, if so.....find a different car, my friend used to drive a VR6 6 speed and it was great, such a sick car, but then winter came and Fwd wasnt that fun in the snow.....so he got an 03 s4 hahaha,

i almost got a worked vr6 for 2000 in the fall because a friend was moving and couldnt garage his second car (he now has the sickest wrx i have ever seen) but i had just got my forester a month before. Pissed about that

FWD Silverado huh? I didn't know Chevy made Front Wheel Drive pickups... you sure it's not 4x4 or 2WD?

i know lots of people who drive jettas in the winter in my hometown where we get 350+ inches of snow and none of the roads are flat, they make it around fine usually. my opinion is that jettas are pretty reliable foreign cars and get really good gas mileage, especially if you went with the tdi. i think either a vr6 or 1.8t would be the most fun. or just go with any subaru

go with JDM. parts are cheap and they run forever.

don't get a jetta. but if you do go with veedub get a diesel.

audi is really good, too.

chevy didn't have a fwd. fwd isn't good for towing.

i'd be careful about getting an audi. you can either get lucky and get one that won't need a lot of repairs, or you will get one that will be a nightmare. i like them though for sure.

i drive an 07 vw rabbit.

BEST car ive ever driven, VW's honestly make it enjoyable to just drive. They handle like an extension of your body.

And as for reliability my mother has a 97 vw cabriolet 250 000 clicks and its still running just fine.

get the jetta, you will not regret it.

get a jetta GLI, its defiently not a "chick's car" but if u could scoop up a b5 auid s4, go for that. u can find them pretty cheap nowadays. the B5 models were made in thre years 1997-2002, or 2001.5 i think that right.

vw's are electrical nightmares, honestly my brother was told by a certified vw technician that he needed a new transmission when it was just a fuse, but he's had a bunch of electircal problems since. one time there was literally a fire in his engine block, it was small and put itself out but still scary shit

it all depends on what your looking for. cuz if your looking for something thats just cheap and reliable but somewhat nice look into some of the hondas or toyotas, but if your looking to put something into it look into a used wrx (if not impreza even)

to my knowledge s4 debuted in 2000 wioth the TT version. one of my best buddies is a audi/vw mechanic and he said that the turbos in the s4 particaully are crap, they last 75k-100k if your lucky, then its time for k04s or replace them with stock parts, either way your looking at 3grand +.

Also Audi=pimped VW.

12 bags of horse feed works...600lbs...lol...the six foot beds suck. i'm always sliding when it rains and i have rwd. i hate it.

jettas arent chick cars, it just so happens that a lot of girls think that vws in general are 'cute'

so you buy a dependable car, handles 100 times better then any shitty civic, and then you get chicks because they like your car. it's a win win situation

bahaha do you even have your license?

VW, BMW, Audi, anything european is fuckin expensive. thats all my brother works on is european cars...super expensive.

go with a subaru, hyundai (have GREAT warranties), or just anything thats either AWD or front wheel you'll be fine

Everybody on NS seams to get sick ass cars for their first car its insane.

I worked all the time at a decent paying job and i had a hard time buying a 89 honda civic for 1500 bucks.

I know it will take time for some of you to learn this but a car is one of the worst investments you could ever make. All it does is suck money. Sit down and figure out the cost per mile of you car. That is gas, insurance, depreciation of the car, maintenance, and any other cost. You will find that you are just throwing away money. In a lot of cases it would just be cheeper to rent a car whenever you needed one.

Do yourself a favor and spend less than 2 grand on a good reliable first car. I suggest a small truck. This way you will never be the one who has to drive because you dont have room. And all you shit can easily fit in the back. You dont need an STI or an S4 for your first car that is insane.

i agree i worked hard to get a used honda accord and i've had it for 4 years, all they do is suck down money i just had to invest 600 bucks to change my timing belt, and if it were an s4 or something european those cars are mad $$$ to fix, i've had tons of friends buy new fast cars just to crash them a few months later, it just isn't worth it

buy a subaru. not as expensive to fix, jettas are a chick car, subarus run through everythhing.. within reason. and an impreza 2.5 is nicer looking.

I work at a body shop, I see how much parts cost every day and I'm fairly sure I have a license. Hyundai's have great warranties because they're shit and the only way they get sales is by a 200k warranty.

One of my friends has a diesel jetta.

It gets crazy good gas mileage (its a manual), but is also really really loud (which can be both an advantage and disadvantage.)

price doesn't necessarily mean quality, vw/audi parts are expensive because that company has a monopoly on the parts so they can charge whatever the fuck they want, i've been told by many many mechanics to steer clear of vdubs and audis

body shop is completely different from a foreign body shop. you would not believe the cars my brother takes care of and gets to bring home. 57 benz, bentleys, ferraris, i kid you not. and dont dis hyundais. ive had two and theyve been the greatest cars ive ever owned. never once had a problem with them

finally someone i agree with.

cept i got my 91 civic with nothing wrong cept one rust spot that i already fixed, for 800 bucks
