car locks freezing

so with dropping temperagtures, comes frozen car locks. the fuck? i have a vw golf, and this happens a lot, especially since i washed my car yesterday. i thought it would be fine today, but no. any ways to prevent this?

my locks froze up last night on my jeep and i had to crawl through the back like a goof ball. anyways i sprayed some lock de-icer in there. that did the trick

 
yeah but spraying liquid in there everymorning? i mean that seems like it would just keep it going over time. and my mom parks in the garage. would wd40 help at all?

try it. wd40 doesnt freeze so it might do the job

i honestly have never had this problem. Sometimes the doors freeze shut, but if you pull hard enough they always open.

I had a problem like that, instead of my locks freezing the door mechanism froze, so when i pulled up on the handle, the mehanism fell apart. I thought it was frozen so I'm dumping de-icer in there. All to no avail. Had to bust out a window to get in.

mine freezez inside and lock de icer doesnt work

so i have to heat my key with a lighter then stick it in melt the ice and repeat process till it opens

I put lock de-icer in there once and they haven't froze since. My trunk for frozen for a while though so I just had the heater cranked up and it defrosted.

The lock de-icer also lubricates and prevents the locks from freezing up for a while, it's good shit.

I heard that a lighter works well to de ice, but I have never tried it.

well if the lock was metal and you just heated the metal up with a lighter from the outside so the lock thawed out i dont see why it wouldnt work

Yeah dude theres shit load of shit against it.

1) white grease sold every where just spray some inside (when they are not frozen)any grease works but this one is just better.

2) if you end up lock out put a lighter to the key

heat it up and put it in. takes couple of tries though.

3) don't know about walmart deicers never tried those

 
wd-40 or de-icer will thaw it. According to most owners manuals, you are supposed to oil your lock cylinders once a year with a few drops of 5w-30 motor oil.

i live in indiana so i dont lock my doors..i also drive a 98 ranger so who in there right mind would want to steal that especially when its covered in a shit ton of mud cuz i drive it like its a big mudder but it aint

Just make sure you always have a lighter on you. Whenever my locks freeze I just heat the shit out of my key w/ the lighter. Put the key in the lock for a minute and try it. If it doesn't open, repeat the process.

yeah wd40 seemed to do the trick. i guess this problem is kind of notorious for vw's. i sprayed some in, and unlocked and locked it over and over to get it good.q

hey, look for a little gizmo that looks like a wire thingie, it's like 10 bucks, and runs on a tiny battery.

it warms up the metal thing, like constantly, doubles as a little flashlight, and goes on your keychain, so you just flick it out, and stick it in, thrusting not recommended, lol.

lock de icer is what i usually do. and to keep the door from freezing closed, you can just put garbage bags around the perimeter of hte door,

 
How about you don't wash your car when it's below freezing out. Ever think of that?

Put your key in both palms, and breathe on it, then put it into the lock. Do this a couple times and it should open.

how about it wasnt below freezing in the day time when i brought it to the car wash. how about i got the car about a month ago and havent washed it yet. how about you give me some more advice so i can be a great human. lay it on me.

get a big cup of hot water and pour it over the lock, that usually does it, I have to do that on my hydraulic hoses for my plow alot.

.at that point I started to cry...mainly 'cause I sat on my balls. I banged this chick so hard one time..she had to adjust her cant.

don't lock your doors, just take anything of value out of it and don't ever lock it. I had a bad experience once where i locked my car and it froze shut. we were hiking in the woods during the winter, we were all in another dimension and when we started to come back to reality i found out i couldn't get into my car, needless to say we didn't know what to do, so i was about to break a window then we acquired de icer from someone. lesson learned do not lock car doors ever!!!!!

man oh man autozone sucks. i went in to buy oil and all the good shit in cases was fucking gone. i had to buy 12 separate quarts instead of a case, it was a good deal but fuckl that.
