Try this. Accelerate on a straight line over a mile . Nothing changes. Now accelerate and do long smooth lane changes. Your speed will increase due to a longer path and increased g forces.

Reality check. Theres one thing that makes a car go faster and thats pressing the gas pedal. At any given time a tire has 100% traction available. This 100% can be split between cornering,accelerating and braking. For instance if you are going into a turn and you are at 100% of your tires cornering ability even 1% of gas or brake will case your tired to lose traction. If you try to accelerate at 100% of your cars tires ability to maintain traction and you corner or brake even 1% they will lose traction. this is called the friction circle. In other words you can accelerate faster if you are moving in a straight line and have 100% of your tires abilities dedicated to maintaing longitudal traction

When cornering your tires roll out. Which this means is that your are accuatlly putting more ruber on the road because you are rolling over the straight line tread. Notice how a tires tread wraps around. So when you coner more ruber means more traction which means more speed.

hah that link you sent me proves aboslutley nothing of your point. The point that was making is taking the FASTEST LINE AROUND A CORNER. Which is the line that you need to turn THE LEAST. Holding a smooth constant radius arc around a corner starting from the outside edge touching the apex(inside edge) and ending up back on the outside edge at the end of the turn is a way of making the turn less severe. IN OTHER WORDS you are trying to turn the least amount possible to get around a corner faster, idiot. You are so wrong here dude. Your saying you can accelerate faster through a turn than you can in a straight line. Dont try to pull that bullshit on me I've read plenty about the dynamics of race car driving and I actualy understood what they are saying. Read those graphs again

Here is where your wrong. We are talking about passing not cornering. So the arc will be about 5-7 degrees. What this means is that over the slight arc he will be acclerating. Because there is an arc and the speeds involved, g's will be created and increased. More g's means more speed. Than you add the fact that is traveling over and arc rather than straight line means he has more distance which means more room for accerlation. So, you will travel and accerlate faster through an arc of 5-7 degrees rahter than a straight line. Now if you want to talk about cornering taht is another convo and I will agree with you on what you said about cornering. As for passing and impact speed, your wrong.

Maybe your unsure about your usage of the word G's. Perceived G force is created by change in direction. Because when turning while acclerating the G's are lateral(meaning side to side) and will push you against the side of the car not 'Accelerate you forward'. How would lateral G's increase your speed? Do you see drag racers driving in large arcs? No they drive in a straight line because its the fastest possible way between two points. No amount of turning will change that.

So tell me what you are arguing here. Are you saying the more you turn the faster your go? Or are you saying slight turns make you go faster?

quarter mile around a circle track what kind of oval or circular track is a quarter mile long. Ok I am gonna copy this STRAIGHT out of my racecar driving book asshole.

To find out how much faster you can go through a turn on the right line, you have to attach some speeds to these arcs. To do this you need to describe the relationship between the size of an arc and the maximum speed a vehcile can attain on that arc. From the skidpad we know the bigger you make the radius (I.E the less you are turning) the higher the potential speed. In addition, you need to take into account how well the car corners. A car with a greater cornering force will reach it's limit at higher speeds. The equation that ties these two interrelated facts togther is 15GR=m.p.h.². G represents the car's maximum cornering force, where G is the force of Gravity and R Represents the radius of the corner in feet. to compute maximum cornering speeds on different arcs we need to simplify things and all our car a 1G car. ( for comparison a street sedan might be able to exert 7/10ths of a G while cornering at maximum.

So to plug in lets say the radius of our corner is 103 feet the forumla would be

15x1x102=m.p.h²

1545=m.p.h²

39.3m.p.h

So now try a large radius corner (meaning less severe of a turn) and your speed will increase! Plug in your own elements and you will see no matter what the less you turn the faster your m.p.h will be

By making unnecessary turns you are adding to the total distance needed to get around the track(not faster). Your arguement makes absoltley no sense at all. All that matters is the velocity at which they hit a tree. The momentum change you have going that fast to an instantaneous zero(a tree accident results in this type of change) is pretty mindblowing.
