Car camping and skiing: any tips?

im in college so funds are tight and I'm three hours drive to the closest hill. you guys got any tips on sleeping in the parking lot overnight? wanting to get the most days in possible this year.

if it can fit a twin mattress you're set. i live outta my rav4 and its fine. i usually sleep in parking lots that don't expressly say no overnight parking and I've never been given a ticket. Bring non-perishable food, lots of water, warm sleeping bag, and make sure theres service where you sleep.

What kinda car you got?

I got a Toyota Tacoma with a cap on the back so sleeping in there should be good. was wondering if anyone had ideas to drying gear besides in the truck while its running

Stuff your boots and socks with newspaper, use merino socks, plan out a spot like a coffee shop or a fireplace in the lodge where you can warm up and dry out before getting on the hill / before going to bed. Don't store your gear crumpled up in a bag, spread it out. If you are handy build a sleeping platform for your truck bed and store stuff neatly below that, it will be a little better to have it away from all the moisture if it were stored at the same level you are sleeping on. Crack a window for ventilation, cold and dry is much better than slightly less cold and wet. Have multiple changes of high quality baselayer and midlayer gear that dries quickly, don't even think about cotton. Since you are three hours from the hill it might be a long shot, but check pawn shops and consignment stores for boot/glove dryers that plug into a car outlet.

Hopefully you have a bigger car or wagon, i can sleep pretty comfy in my outback. Invest in a nice sleeping bag and one of those bedrool foam pad things, they help alot.

nice that it shows skiers do other shit besides skiing. bentchetlers the man and if I had his van I wouldn't even bother renting an apartment anymore

If you have a tacoma I would highly recommend building a flat space that rests on the wheel wells. You can do it for as simple as a few sheets of plywood and some 2x4s. It's pretty easy and you can find instruction on youtube. Sleeping directly on the bed in the winter time gets really, really cold even if you are on a mattress. I've had good luck sleeping at the hill or the motel 6 parking lot up the street.

For drying your stuff...I've had luck giving things their own space in the truck so that nothing is cluttered and stays wet. Simple stuff like liners taken out of the boots and hanging up your jacket go a long way.

You definitely will want to double up on the sleeping bags... Maybe even triple. I know they sell little propane heaters I think its called the "buddy". you need to make sure there is ventilation otherwise you might not have enough oxygen.
