I am buying a system for my car. i have 400 dollars saved now, and i can get more if i wait. my friend will sell me his 2 10 inch rockford fosgate 10's. is there any brand that i should buy? is there compatability issues with buying a sony amp and rockford subs with a kenwood deck?

you are gonna get a million different answers. you are better off just talking to people at dealers or doing your own research.

naw theres not compatability issues u just half to wire them correctly or u can fuck everything up

new look zrs race bindings for sale, din 7-17, $225 US, send me a msg if u want um

mainly, look up wiring guides (so you can understand the difference between series and parallel wiring), and make sure that your amp will be able to handle the ohm load and still deliver the proper amount of power.

As far as I know (from previous experience - not current models) Sony tended to be a little generous with their wattage ratings, so keep that in mind, but I haven't really heard of people having serious problems with them.

1st of all - save as much money as you possibly can.....$400 is not enough for a whole system.

2nd - do not ! DO NOT ! buy Sony for your car. their home audio is superb but they are the elan airtwist of the car stereo community. i would stay away from kenwood amps & subs, too, they are kind of weak (their mids and decks are pretty nice though)

3rd - don't base your opinion of how a subwoofer sounds in the stereo shop - it WILL NOT sound the same in your car. your mids WILL sound the same though, so listen to every single midrange speaker in the store with a cd that you are very familiar with until you find the ones that sound the best.

4th - get a warranty deal on all your speakers.....they are the first things to fuck up. my buddy spent like $200 extra on a warranty plan from his shop and he's replaced EVERY SINGLE speaker in his car at least twice (subs five times!) if he didn't get the warranty he'd be fucked

5th - EBAY - if you want to get the cheapest system possible go there (but only if you're doing the install yourself because stores charge mad loot to install gear that wasn't purchased there). i bought two infinity perfect 12's for $350 a piece a couple yrs ago (blew one a little while back) and i just found the Dual voice coil version (better) on ebay for $130. plus an amp that costs $600 in the store for $200. The only disadvantage is that you don't have the option of getting the store's warranty.

i could probly go up to 27th but this should give you a start - and if you're wondering about my credibility i've owned 5 different cars and about 6 1/2 different systems.....and i'm barely satisfied with the one i have right now that ran me over $3000. but yeah as long as you don't buy sony you're okay

I would buy high quality no matter what you do.. rockford fosgate is okay, but just get some high end fosgates. I have a pair of cheaper rockford fosgate 12's and they didn't sound that good, even though they were 100 per subwoofer. ($45 off ebay, american money) I don't think it matters what amp.. just make sure you DON'T under power your subwoofers. I had a 1200 watt for two 12s, but it varys.

also keep in mind that when you are trying to match up ohm loads and available power, base you matching on the RMS ratings, not the peak/max ratings. You really only need about 1/3 rd of the RMS of a Sub to get it to work, but ideally you can line everything up at approximately RMS.

Most importantly, yes, better quality will sound better (typically), but there is a lot of truth to the words, its all in the install. I have heard some incredible ''budget systems'' but they were designed and layed out by people who know what they are doing to maximize the quality/output of the install.

I have that Pioneer 7500 deck and its pretty nice. It would be good with subwoofers because you can customize each subwoofers sound/loudness with the deck. Its mp3 compatible too so you can burn mp3 cds with approximately 200 songs on one cd.

My sony 630 sounded better and worked fine with my subs, and you could customize the sound too.

tom, if you buy me a new 10 in a box...dont really care what it is, as long as it sounds good...ill give you my 2 JL 3W's boxed with a security chain thingy...they are loud as fuck, but i always have to take them in and out when i want to sleep in my truck, plus my ears are dying
