So I just got some birthday money from a few relatives, and since my subwoofer and a few speakers are blown in my car, I figured why not get a better sound system. I am a noob at this shit so I don't trust myself at all on this subject.

So the first question, should I just go to like Car Toys or some shit and ask for help? I listen to mainly rap. I was thinking about getting a 10" sub or smaller just cus idk where I would put it (audi a4). Anything else I should get? Any suggested brands?

And I should mention the cheaper the better. More worried about durability than quality, and the cheaper the better

Check out boxing day sales. for something like this its not necessary to have just now. wait a few months and you can fill your trunk with subs faster and cheaper then you can fill your tank with gas.i bought a $250 speaker for $75... penny saved

pretty sure he's from America. Boxing day doesn't mean much for us. I'm in the same boat, looking at some subs. My friend has a kicker 12 inch, and it fits fine in his bmw 335, so a 12 should be plenty fine for you. I would think about getting either a kicker or JL. They hit hard and clean.

you might need a new head unit for a pre amp. you need an amp and you need speakers. just get a box with the sub and put your amp on the side or ontop of it. you could put it behind the head rests of the back row and hide the amp in the trunk.
but honestly just go talk to a few different sales reps from different stores like best buy and futureshop, those guys deal with this exact question at least 1000 times a day.

First off, don't spend tons of money. You can make shitty car audio gear sound great if you know what you are doing.

I would suggest this sub: http://outlet.crutchfield.com/p_067MA122D4/MA-Audio-MA122D4.html?cc=02&ssi=0&tp=13722 and then match it with an amp that is 2 ohm stable and 800-1000 watts peaks. Just make sure the RMS power on the amp matches to the sub which would be 400 watts RMS.

As far as speakers, do you want it to be blaring loud? If so, you'll need to get another amp. If not, a good head unit will be sufficient and some good speakers. What car are you putting these in? We need to know what size speakers you need.

I'm new to this and also looking for a sub for my forester.. so i need a head unit, an amp?!?!, and then the sub? what is the amp

The amp gets its power from your car battery(alternator), and then relays that power to your subs. It also takes the signals from your head unit and puts those signals to your subs

Didn't read the thread. Save your money. Car audio is a huge fucking waste of money. Nobody cares how loud you can make your license plate vibrate against your trunk.

If you want a quality sub get an alpine type r, 12" if you want a really loud sub that will vibrate your mirrors And you'll hear outside of the car, 10" if you really just want to improve the sound of your system with either a 700 or 500 watt alpine amp, either that or go with kicker I just got a 10" kicker comp for my girlfriend for Christmas and it bumps in my jeep it would still sound pretty good in a trunk
