Can't hit the tiniest rail in the park...

i'm trying to learn rails this year. i'm not sure why but i got a mental block and every time i go up to hit this tiny rail i end up not popping enough, not turning 90, etc...

anyone got a solution?

make sure you're 100% comitted. If you know you can do it, you will. It's that simple. Just make sure you have a wide stance going into it, rotate a good 90 degrees on and try to keep a wide stance, with most of your weight on your front foot, so you don't fall backwards. keep your eyes on where you're going to land off teh rail and you should have no problems.

honestly dont be a pussy. not to be harsh its the truth. i had a mental block yesterday with trying 270's on but i did it and i ate shit a couple times but i eventually got it. its all about commiting good luck you'll get it man

go fast... if you fall your momentum will carry you over so you'll fall on the snow and not on the rail. As you get more confident you can slow your speed down and land higher up on the rail and steeze it out.

just commit that was my problem i would always get scared then i juts went for it once and got it

take it out to dinner, wine and dine, and just get to know it, and then it should open up to you and let you slide it right...

you ARE going to ride up to that kicker with confidence and steeze, you WILL pop, then you WILL spin 90, you ARE GOING TO slide the rail with style while looking at the end, then you WILL get off the rail and ride away like a g. you ARE.

Same problem here, seems like i got no problem on boxes, but rails own me. Just build up some confidence on boxes and then try a rail. I got it a couple times last week but you'll definatly fall a couple of times it's just natural, just be confident.

i learned how to acctually hit a rail this year and you just got to think ok 90's thats not hard and although it may seem scary its better to hit it with speed

I totally know how you feel but you have to get over it and stop cheating yourself out of that trick. And I'm going to say that speed definitely helps, it hurts a lot more to bail when you half ass it than when you actually try. Turn up the beats, man up, and slay that shit. Let me know how it goes.

you might want to turn around and get yours out first....seriously dude dont be a dick to a kid trying to learn how to slide a rail.... minus karma for you..

If they have a small box somewhere, hit that up first, if not like my hill, just comit to the rail.

Most of the rails I see for beginners have the shittiest lips from snowboarders, so you're going to need to jump a bit, either way, jump and turn 90, land on the rail without your feet super close together, or you'll either catch an edge and fall forwards, or lean back too much and fall off. Another thing I've noticed with kids learning on small rails with crappy take-offs, is they start with both feet to the sides of the rail, so when they get on if they do, they're automatically sliding off the other side right away, just start right in front of the rail, and take-off with one ski on one side, and one ski on the other, so if you fail to jump, or turn 90, you'll either nut yourself, or ride with a rail between your legs, it's scary, but it needs to be done at all times for beginners, and don't go too slow, or the rail will be super sticky, and you'll just fall off, go at a normal pace. So start off 15 feet from the rail, go straight towards it, rail between your legs, jump, turn 90, land with both feet shoulder width apart, and both feet on the rail, slide it, and worry about getting off it when the time comes, that's the easy part. Good luck man.

do you have a rail at your home or a rail somewhere you can just practice lining up square with and poping on. when in the park hitting the rail just make a square stanc and jump, don't be afraid there is nothing to be afraid of you most likely will split your legs to either side of the rail but since it is so low you will just ski along it. And then try again and again till you get it.

that rails a bitch and doesnt deserve your respect. id suggest just skiing by it every time while demeaning it by giving it the bird.

dude wth are you guys talking about, i got my skis tried a box ate shit and died. worked on my ride on boxes sideways, got em meh and then tried the box again stomped it 2 runs later i stomped a rail.... first try

commmmmmit

Crank your music, point your tips down, and just act like you've done this 1,000 times. Confidence is key.

duuuuude...listen to me...like two years ago every time i hit rail i just felt backwards and hit myself pretty hard but just kept goin' adn just one day i did it pretty smooth adn after that hittin a ril wasn't problem only doin it with style so just poractice a lot and you will get it... just look up front dont hesitate aaaand THINK ABOUT ALL THE GIRLS THAT ARE WATCHING YOU AND THINKING I'M GONNA HOOK WITH THAT GUY IF HE MAKES IT...YEAH

just learn how to fall so if u eat it, it doesn't hurt. I hardly ever fall back and wipe out w/ my ass on the rail. If i'm going to bail, I always just jump off to the side and I rarely ever eat shit.

i was not able to hit rails but then i did like the tiniest rail in the kiddie park to boost my confidence. then i dropped a 15 ft cliff to get pumped. after that i had no problem sliding bigger rails.

visualize yourself actually hittin the rail and owning it (it helps with the mental thing)

speed is helpul on almost all rails

make sure you land wit the rail right under your boots or just a tad in front

have your ballance about 60% back foot 40% front foot depending on what kind of rail it is (flat, down, kink, s, c, etc etc...)

commit

practice practice practice

good luck man. hope you get it

i learned rails for the first time last week (just switched from snowboarding) first rail i did was one of those huge boxes i got that down so i started hitting a mailbox got that down and start doing all the rails i could.

Just go alone and work at it untill you get it, and you have to have balls i crashed a shitload of times that day untill i got it.

Well, people can give you step-by-step instructions on how to slide rails all day, but when it comes down to it it's really up to you. You need to stop being a bitch and just sack up and hit it. Just ski and make sure you slide it, and don't over analyze it or get too technical. Skis on rail, and don't fall. Simple.

as your skiing up to the rail just say to your self " im going to do this, this rail is my bitch, this rail is my bitch" then fuck that bitch up. thats what i did, oh and look at the end of the rail bend your kness and dont lean back. Have fun.

dude i actually had the same problem with them. just a big mental block. this summer i started inlining a bit and that got me really comfertable on the rails since rails are real simple on skates. this year i already learned like 15 foot rails and 270 outs and stuff

thats what i did for my first 2 270s onto a rail, i got a 180 but pussied out on the last 90. but i learned quickly (switch nuttage aint fun)

dude i had the same problem last year i couldn't get the 90 i would just go off to the side. Honestly u just need to man up i know this is wat everyone says but its the truth u need to pop and commit to the 90 degree turn. What i did was just go to ur local hill and try to hit up a non busy night session and just hike the smallest flat rail that you can. Just commit and do it then you will get comfortable and wont be scared anymore.
