Can't feel the hate for Warren Miller

I've been gettin a lot of bad vibes from the ski world towards WME lately... But I gotta say, I just can't feel that way about it. I just watched dynasty, I go to the Warren Miller movie every year for my birthday, I wasn't disappointed. It had some good scenes, they always do a good job showing all aspects of the ski world, not just jibs, jumps, and afterbang. I wish all the drama between warren and WME hadn't gone down, but lawers will be lawers.. I doubt any of the film crew had any hate.

I dunno about you guys, but I felt pretty old recognizing old clips from the Warren Miller films of the past.. Ride.. Cold Fusion.. It's been more than a decade since I started watching... More than half my life lol...

Gets me stoked to ski at the least.. I got home and set up my rail, my skis had a busted binding.. but I got my snowboard out and jibbed it up...

Anyway... Just felt like I had to show some love for Dynasty.. Go ahead and hate on me and WME.. But it wasn't a bad film.

It's not necessarily that they make bad movies. It's that they make stale movies; the formula for a "good movie" for them never changes. Whereas PBP and Level 1 are innovating with, for example, Reasons & Jib Jam and Refresh, respectively.

Moreover, it's the principle of the thing. I mean, it's ski film company versus ski film company. And I think that's difficult in such a small industry. WME alienated hundreds of thousands (to millions) of people by deciding to play the corporate conglomerate. Which is fine, I guess. But in such a small industry of passionate individuals, it backfires very quickly. That said, WME deserves all the hate it is getting.

Exactly! I was a diehard Warren miller fan but when I found out about this crap and the fact that Warren was no longer running the show, wel that's enough to jump ship. Seriously, WME are scumbags!

I agree, what WME did was just a money-grabbing attempt to protect what's left of its ailing brand.

But you have to remember, it's the Manager and Lawyers of WME that instigated this, and they most probably don't even ski: they see WME as a business.
So hate WME, but remember, it's no the fault of WME's filmers or athletes.

this

the skiers and filmers people who are just enjoying what they're doing and a lot of them we've seen before in other stuff. so no hate towards them, it's the head guys who are the douche bags

his narrations are the best part about the movies and now they are just using recycled clips from older movies. its pathetic.

Warren Miller literally is the grandfather of ski films. for the younger generation who is all about dope film soundtracks, smooth editing, and all park shots.. they have little respect for Warren. I have been watching Warren Miller films since the days when i would have my buddys over for my birthday in 4th grade to watch some shredding on big mountains. Warren Miller exhibits skiing all over the globe, and describes every atmosphere and looks into the cultural aspects of other countries. its not all about steeze and spins.

warren miller is for all types of skiers, if all you do is sit in the park all day.. i wouldnt expect you to appreciate the founder of ski films. you simply dont understand how to.

I don't mean this to be mean at all, but you don't have a clue what you are talking about do you?
I think everyone appreciates Warren Miller, the fact of the matter is that he hasn't been involved with the making of a ski movie in 10 years or so. Old Warren Miller movies are great.
If you aren't up to date, his old production company "Warren Miller Entertainment", which Warren himself has NO involvement in at all sued Level 1 productions because Warren narrated a little bit of it. First ski movie he has had anything to do with in 10 years and he has to go to court for it because of the company that bears his name.
In my mind, it doesn't matter how good or bad the movies are (they aren't BAD necessarily, but they are boring and stale) when a production company says "fuck you" to the industry that made them rich as they have, I say fuck you back.

i found out that the people who still like warren miller movies are the ones who have no fucking clue about skiing in general.

you're no different than the kids who go to the movie premieres wearing abercrombie and ski the groomers at deer valley 4 times a year.

another thing is that wme ive noticed in there previous films uses footage from pbp n shit. which imo doesnt exactly qualify as a main production company.

WME is a truly awsome ski filming company. no-one wants to admit it, because we r 2 pissed off at them. but they r very good.

however, this should not be the basis of thought for how we look at wme. freestylr skiing is supposed to be fun, relaxing, and free. (hense the "free" in freestyle0. so why the hell would u throw a lawsuit i someones face!!!!!! its just so stupid. utterly, ridiculously, stupid

Any film company that promotes truly outdated athletes and buys other companies' B and C footage is not legitimate imo.

I could give a shit about their movies, that company still did something really lame for a small company, when their whole image is about how skiing is awesome and so are all the little guys who innovate the skiing film industry. WTF is all I could say about that lawsuit.

wat im trying to say is, they r good at wat they do. and before this lawsuite, i heard nothing but praise for them.people r using this lawsuite to hate on their film making, when really, before this all started, they were considered as one of the best film companys in the world. so dont hate on their work. hate on the fact that they r such fuckin rediculous asswholes for putting out a lawsuite.

dude, who regards them as the best in the world? as stated above, they BUY B and C footage off the cutting room floor of PBP and other companies. thats weak.

and kid, go to school.

haha WME sucked looooooong before the level 1 lawsuit. all they do is a good job of feeding the masses of gapers that praise them. WME is the household name of freeskiing (big mountain/pow/park) which sucks because gapers everywhere think they're so great when all they do is take footage from PBP and MSP put it in there movie, then maybe add some voice overs by Jonny Mosely, toss in a few warren miller quotes, then their movie is done. Skiing, to wme, is a giant corporation that they use to make money, they are so far from a good film company its a joke. im not saying skiing isn't a corporation but the true and good filmers/crews/producers do it cause they love it, not to make money.

haha i hope english isnt your first language. I went to a WME movie (can we please stop calling it a warren miller movie) 4 years ago and was so bored with the first half i walked out at intermission.

While claiming the rights to Warren Miller's voice is under their ownership is completely ridiculous, after seeing Refresh I did think that showing placecards that read "If you don't do it this year, you'll be one year older when you do." was a little inappropriate, because they probably do actually have some sort of claim to that phrase.

WME's lawers/PR people are fucking retarded. I would have sued them for that, now everyone just thinks that they think they own Warren Miller's soul.

First of all, most of that hate comes from their stupid lawsuit against Level 1, not really their movies.
Secondly, have you seen Everyday Is A Saturday? Cause I've seen clips of Dynasty, and I have friends who've seen all of it, and almost every good skiing shot in it is from Everyday Is A Saturday. So I really feel that I don't need to see it.
The only good thing about going to a Warren Miller Show is the atmosphere and even that sucks now - a bunch of drunk guys that yell every time someone does a backflip - but when a skiier throws a Dub Cork 10 it's completely silent.

Kid, to put it bluntly you have no idea what you are talking about. Twoods and 123ski already laid down the law on your ass so I'm not gonna say shit other than do a search and read all the articles/interviews about it.

Since when does "all types of skiers" leave out "those who sit in the park all day?"

And you're welcome to stereotype NS as a park skiing site, as long as you still register the sticker on my helmet when I skin past you.

It's just plain wrong that WME exists under that name. They should do the "right" thing and change their name. WME misleads everyone associated and dupes sponsors and paying public by use of the name. Furthermore, the lawsuit shows how out of touch they are. If the idiots had just let things be with Level 1, they would have likely gotten more of a following. but no.... You reap what you sow, don't ya WME?

Go to Warren Millers facebook page. He has been personally responding to every post on his page. Every time someone says how great his films are.....over and over again he replies that he doesn't have anything to do with the films put out by WME.

I can excuse the sponsors, athletes and filmers for their involvement in Dynasty last year. However, those filmers, athletes, and sponsors who continue to support WME (unless there is a name change) this season should be ostracized.

I agree that Warren Miller is the grandfather of ski films, but you do realize that after he left, the objective of the company went from making amazing ski films to making money off of 'skiers' that want to look like they are more involved in the sport. Warren himself, hates what WME has done to his name which obviously shows that something if fucked.

Now, i'm not saying that the film is not enjoyable at all, as it is a film about the sport all of us on here love and participate in, and you get free swag for a cheap ticket. I went the last two years myself, and am an all over skier and not just a park rat. It was a good time, they had some good shots, but nothing was spectacular and you could tell the crowd just had no clue. Clapping and cheering for Dumont's three double fronts in a row at JOSS, but not at any of the much more technical things like Jon's perfectly stomped kangaroos, and various double corks...

You can't say that we don't appreciate the films because we sit in parks all day because a lot of us on here don't. We don't appreciate the films because the shots are not jaw dropping, the company is horrible to the ski industry (other than drawing in gapers) and the films don't show what is really happening in the sport like films from pbp, level 1, msp, and tgr do.

I haven't seen the newest release, but in regards to stereotyping NS.. I'm simply stereotyping people that hate on wme despite the fact that he doesnt produce the films himself anymore.

abercrombie? whats that all about, i hate abercrombie.

'warren miller' films are a bit more montage and abstract to show more aspects of skiing, but yes they are completely politically overwhelmed with ratings and appealing to all parties simply for profit. it is disgusting, nevertheless i get stoked to watch big mountain skiing.

yo whats that sticker on your helmet or whatever you were talking about?
