Canon XC10 4K Camcorder

i think, depending on the quality of the glass, this could be killer.

If it is "L series" level glass then hella yeah, but if it is stm glass or regular glass, i am not gonna be so stoked...

Also,

the closer i read it, the less good the glass seems... 2.8-5.6 is pretty shitty and if the focus throw is not huge i am going to be seriously let down, not to mention, at that size, there is no way it is internal zoom and focus, meaning follow focus and whatnot is nearly impossible.

My take after reading the article and looking at the specs, Is that Canon basically took the Panasonic Lumix GH3 (3 not 4) and gave it a fixed lens. 1080@60 and 4k@30 is really not that great at all considering the GH4 is $1k less and you can put great glass infront of it with similar results.

It seems like buying a used GH3 with a metabones adapter for canon, or even a GH4, would be a better option.

It looks as if someone tried to describe a dslr to a Chinese replica factory via the phone.

Or they hired the Pentax designer.

The lens really killed this otherwise coulda-been-great camcorder.

Ya I don't understand why they didn't make it so the lens could be inter-changeable. All of canon's line of lenses would be able to be used on it as far as full frame lenses which would have been extremely nice.

isn't modularity the future? Why would they not make it interchangeable. Also, that form factor is hideous

it has quality potential, at least in resolution terms - 4K (300mbps is huuuuge for it being $2500)

although you can only record 1080 60p at 50mbps? what a gh4 can do 1080 at 200mbps

h264 meh

Playing the devil's advocate here a bit...

except the gh3 doesn't do 4k lol, also follow focus isn't impossible as long as you leave it for a set focal length/there's ways to rig it up.

the bitrate's also higher than the gh4 could do in UHD and idk man, try finding a zoom that has a constant aperture for a 10x zoom range for under 50 grand and then come back and complain about the 2.8 to 5.6 of this one.

that being said, 8 bit is a bit disappointing and I think the trend should be going towards 10 bit... but in all honesty, this camera isn't all that impressive to me either although i don't believe it's as bad as you make it out to be

I just found the official Canon promo video.

I don't even have to do the bashing, Canon does it all for itself.

this would have been an awesome camera if you could change the lens. I love canon, but recently not so much. canon continues to disappoint its video orientated customers. instead of focusing on not cannibalizing its cinema line sales they should instead look at the big picture and see that they are losing the video market to competitors.

new generation of the 5d came out. what was the main change? 50 MP, not really anything video orientated - same 720p at 60fps as the previous generations

and as far as their cinema line goes why would i invest 4000 into a c100 that doesnt even do 1080p @60fps when the sony a7s does it for much cheaper, plus has the ability to do 4k @ 30 fps if i want to buy an external recorder (2400 for a7s + 2000 for shogun = 4500, only 500 more than the c100) *obviously they are made for different purposes, but seriously why is a high framerate in 1080p impossible to find for under 10 grand in the canon lineup (does the 1dc even do 1080p at 60fps?)

this thing is priced similar to the a7s as well and still doesnt measure up - and its a video camera! its sole purpose is to shoot video!. if L glass wasnt so nice i would have switched a long time ago (damn you canon why cant you step up your game? crap like this doesnt help your case)

- the 7d (but has terrible low light abilities because it isnt a full frame)

Not here to argue about other cameras but the fact of the matter is Canon Fucked up big time because if this camera could have interchangeable lenses it would be amazing but since it has a fixed lens it sucks. And as far about what was said about the c100 they just came out with the c100 mark 2 which can do 1080p at 60 fps.
