Canon Rebel xti or nikon D60?

from what i understand they are basically the same camera, supposedly the Canon is supposed to have a little better color I think but in real terms both are good. I just picked up a D60 and love it so far, it is the perfect camera for me since I'm just getting back into photography and finally getting into the SLR game.

So I would go with a D60 or if you want the D40 is supposed to be a great camera too, just for what I want to do the guys I talked to said I would be happier with a D60 over the D40.
 
i would go with the canon since they donimate the pro scene so eventully want to switch over to canon and this way you can keep your lenses and flash's
 
i have friends who swear by nikon, but i love my xti. i'm no stellar photog but it def is something i can grow with. imo, canon.
 
i have the XTi and i love it.

I would probably go with that simply because the XSi just came out bring the XTi prices down, although if you have the money you should go with the XSi which has a lot of features the 40d has. One thing to note is the XTi uses compact flash and the XSi uses sd.
 
Well fortunetly, he's not looking for a pro cam. Neither the XTi or the D60 are pro grade. I'm a Nikon shooter myself, got a bunch of them but both are fantastic cameras. Canon has come along way since their film cam probs. Which ever cam feels best to you, feels right in your hand, most comfortable with that's the one you should go with.

the lower end canons feel cheaper compared to the lower end Nikon's however like all canon vs Nikon debates it comes down to whether or not you well want to upgrade to pro level cameras and in which case canon is donimating with the 5d, 1d mark 3, and 1ds mark 3, how ever the Nikon d300 and d3 are still good cameras i still prefer the way canon sensors reads colors and light. so in other words i prefer canon.
 
There is nothing wrong with Nikon's Pro level Cams. One of the biggest differences between them is that Canon has a higher megp then Nikon. However that's not a bad thing. It all depends on what style you are shooting, at a pro level, that determines what kind of camera you need.

Frankly, in my opinion, you don't really need much higher then 12megp. If you are trying to shoot higher then that cause you want to make a very large print, or something along those lines (especially when it comes to portraiture and studio work) then switch to Medium Format.

xti all the way. it is a sick camera and it holds a great charge. also, nikon really only specializes in lenses, while canon specializes in both.
 
ive shot both and i have earlyer stated the canon is by far the best on certain reasons in my veiw the canons colors are better in the pics and the way the camera is setup on the canon is much easier to change settings and the menus are better and in one example to change from single to continous on the nikon u have to go in the menus and on the canon u hit one button easy as that and canon has a bigger run up of lens u can get from including ef ef-s and l seriers so i went with canon and i think u should to cause of the reasons stated above.

Dominating the pro line? I've read numerous bad reviews of the MkIII but only raving reviews of the D3. Plus the D3H and D3x that are coming out are going to be ridiculous... I haven't heard of anything from the Canon side of things in awhile.
 
there have been a few pros who have switched from Nikon when the d3 came out are now switching back to canon. i have used the d3 a bit and the 1d mark 3 extensively, and the 1ds mark 3 a bit and have found that the image that comes out of the camera is better in a canon for whatever reason, you can spend about 10 15 minutes in cs3 to get them to the same level though.
 
I would say Xti, buts thats because i am a canon user...i have more friends with canon dslrs then nikon....not sure if thats an indication...but honestly just try them....cameras will bend towards each individuals needs in different ways
 
check out the link in my sig for photos from my flickr using the CANON XT...so if your getting the XTi you will eventually be able to achieve this a more....depending how much time and effort you put in
 
i just got a new nikon d60. the vibration reduction (VR) comes with the lense that you buy with the camera. Im not sure if it does with the canon rebel...you'll have to check. It's very easy to figure out, and there's nothing i dont like about it yet! Also, if you buy one from ritz camera, you get 18 free photo classes with it too, which is actually pretty cool, especially if you're just getting into it.

I definitely recommend it. Do your research and read online reviews of both cameras. Good luck!
