Canon PowerShot SX230 HS vs Nikon s9100

I am going to be studying in Spain for the fall semester and am planning on getting a camera to carry around. I dont want to get a DSLR since they are more expensive and bulkier. I just want something with good photo quality that is fast and versatile. I have hear both of these cameras are really good for a long zooming compact camera and am trying to decide between the two. I am leaning more towards the Nikon so far, as it shoots faster and has a longer zoom. Thoughts?
