Canon HV or HF?

Hey guys I'm looking to get a higher end camcorder for next season that's still consumer level, and from looking around it seems the Canon HV30/40 camcorders seem to be the most popular. Now I looked around a bit more and found out about the HF camcorders which seem to be basically an SD version of the HV. Now here's my question: which one would you guys recommend? I know that AVCHD will take a lot more processing power than HDV, but other than that what are some advantages/disadvantages of each camcorder, and what would you recommend if I'm going to be mostly using my camcorder for skiing? Finally, would it be worth the extra money to get the newest versions (HV40 / HF M300) or should I just save the extra cash for accessories like a lens or something, and just get the older versions (HV30 / HF200)?

For reference, here is the specs of my PC:

Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4ghz

3gb ram

Nvidia GeForece 9500 GT

Thanks!

i have an hf10 and my friend has an hv30..weve compared them before and i really havn't seen much of a difference other than the hv's have much more memory in the camera
