Canon 7d vs 50d

So here's the deal.

I've got an awesome internship right now and will be in the market to upgrade equipment soon. I've already decided to go with a Canon 24-70 F/2.8L for a lense just cuz i can't think of a better investment for overall photography.

Deciding between bodies is where I'm stumped. I shoot a lot of sports so speed and low light performance is important. I'm not that overly interested in the ability to shoot video but it may end up being something i would regret NOT having. My brother has an HV30 which is always at my disposal if need be

So my question is whether or not the additional $600 for a 7d is worth it from a image quality/camera performance over the 50d. Should i be thinking more about the video aspect of the 7d?

Any insight about either camera would be greatly appreciated

Yes, the 7d is worth it. 8fps, weather sealing, more dedicated buttons vs menu accessed functions. It's just better.

this. It's an all around better camera for sports and you'll definitely be glad you have the video function.

hey man, im in a sort of similar dilemma (kinda)

i'm currently looking to sell my 50D to buy a 7D

if you were interested i could give you a price that would leave you with enough room to afford a nice 50mm or something of that sort. that's only really if you decide to go with a 50D though.

other than that, id recommend a 50D. I'm buying it mainly for the video, but if i wasnt interested in the video, i'm not sure. I love my 50D and have taken some really cool images with it.

good luck deciding though

Here's the way I'm looking at it:

It's like buying a car. You can either buy the car that drives well, or you can buy the car that drives well with all the accessories ex. bluetooth gps etc.

Either way you're still getting a camera, and a nice one at that. Do you need the video function, I'm not sure. Personally I would say buy a 50D now, shoot it until the 7D drops price and you find a good deal on craigslist or w/e and buy a lense with the extra 600 in the meantime. That's what I'm doing anyways because 1600 was out of my price range atm.

my 2 cents.

Solution, buy my 40d with kit lens(28-135 f3.5-4.5) for 900 bucks in brand new condition.
