Canon 7D. Is it worth changing over?

im considering swapping out my nikon d100 and canon hv20 for a 7D. I love the way it looks filming, and takes amazing photos. I searchbarred and found a bit of stuff but not much. I was just wondering any opinions on it, and experience? Can you autofocus while filming or is it strictly manual? And how easy is the shutter speed to change? Thanks
 
i have no interest in swapping a crop sensor for another crop sensor, if i decide to get a dlsr with video capabilities i'm getting the 5dmk2

7d just seems like a waste of money to me if you already have a high end crop body and a good video camera
 
I took some stills and video on a friends 7D the other day, and while the APS-C sensor cannot match a Full frame sensor, the video quality is unbelievable, especially in low light. I'm probably going to swap my 40D for a 7D fairly soon.
 
I still dont understand why people want to trade an hv20 for a 7D. I still don't think its up to par with the hv20. The dof is nice with a DSLR with video but get a jag35 pro and your there.
 
i would love to get the mk 2 if i could afford it. its the real reason why i was considering doing this, then ive seen some stuff shot on the 7D and was pretty impressed. I just like the idea of the capabilities of the zoom/focus on the 7D filming. On the Hv20 the focus wheel is shitty unless you mod it, and the zoom can only do so much. I just am questing the focusing abilities in the 7D.
 
If you're planning on using it for still just as much as video, go for it. But if you're planning on using it mainly for video, I'd hang onto the hv.
 
this is pretty much the choice I've made... waiting for a few more months so I can afford the camera that is truly capable of everything I need.
 
The nice thing about the 7D is it has multiple frame rates, that the 5D doesn't have yet. Its a sick camera.
 
i picked one up a few weeks ago.. sick sick camera, having the option of video is amazing, and being able to shoot 60fps hd is rad, not to mention 8fps stills.

 
IMO!Coming from a photography stand point, I don't know what you would want a HV20 (depending on what type of video you do). 7D and 5DMKII can't even touch the quality of HV20, especially when you get some nice glass on it. Sure it has its limits, auto focus is very hard, and you can only record for up to 12 minutes and the sensor can over heat... but beside that, its amazing, again, this is own thoughts. I have never owned a HV series, however used an older pro-sumer Sharp camera.
