first off i dont smoke i was assigned this topic and i am debating that it should be legal i am mainly looking for information on how it could decrease criminal activity, how it affects our rights and freedoms and how it could bring in revenue for the government or something like that any help would be great ... and +k

I've got one good point:

It would give the police something important to focus on, instead of going around busting every teenager in sight because they smell like a plant. It would help put bad guys in prison, instead of people who are smoking something that is less harmful than both alcohol and cigarettes. Rapists and murderers are literally being kicked out of jail to make room for people caught with a few grams of marijuana.

Some common arguments, I won't elaborate on any but it will give you ideas.

1. If you include all the police expenses, jail costs, propaganda against marijuana, etc., fighting cannabis costs the United States government $42 billion every year. Think of all the things that amount of money could go to, like... I donno, fixing the economy. Education. Fighting real drugs.

2. On top of the money the government would save, it would also earn a truckload by selling taxed marijuana, similar to cigarettes. This has the added benefit of taking money away from criminals (drug dealers) and putting it into the hands of the government.

3. The number one way to keep kids away from marijuana is to legalize it. Ironic, but true. How much harder is it for the average high school student to get alcohol, or even cigarettes, than a sack? Much, MUCH harder. When you force a substance underground, anyone can sell it, and dealers are easy to find. If you have to find someone of age it becomes much more difficult and annoying.

4. Much more dangerous and destructive drugs, for example Oxycontin and Vicodin, both powerful opiates, are sold legally every day over the counter. Marijuana, even though it is far less harmful, remains illegal.

5. Alcohol is much more damaging than marijuana. It doesn't impair coordination/judgment nearly as much, it doesn't cause blackout rages, etc. It isn't chemically or physically addictive. It doesn't trash vital organs to nearly the same extent. It doesn't cause deformed fetuses. It's just better for you, and more natural. In fact, our brains have NATURALLY OCCURRING cannabis receptors.

6. Marijauna has been proven numerous times, by extremely credible institutions, to actually fight and prevent against several devastating cancers. These studies were promptly silenced by the DEA, but you can find them online.

7. The penalties for the possession of marijuana are much more harmful to the user than to the actual drug itself. Fines, court dates, occasional jail time, the negative stigma associated with being a "drug user", the difficulty of getting a job or loan when every application requires you to write down that you got busted with pot... All it does is make you happy, appreciative of the world around you, and less stressed. Which sounds worse?

Other Interesting Shit

Hemp is a much more durable, environmentally safe, comfortable, quality product than cotton. The cotton industry obviously didn't want to go out of business, so they asserted superiority by associating hemp with risky and dangerous drug use.

The reason it is called 'marijuana' and not 'cannabis' is because lawmakers wanted voters to associate weed with illegal immigration, something many people felt very strongly negative about. So they promoted the Mexican name for cannabis, marijuana.

Many of the "facts" you see in anti-drug propaganda are taken from research done by agencies paid by the DEA or other government agencies to produce exactly the results they "found".

Good luck, dude.

It would probably make most people to lazy to go out and commit crime's, instead they would stay home, sleep and eat. Much better idea. But then no one would go to work.

I dunno just a thought.

also you would compare it to alcohol and how people do dumb shit when their drunk. Someone said this in another thread( i forget who) but i think it is an excellent point, it weant something like..." You often here about alcoholic father's beating their children and wive's but when was the last time you heard of someone doing this under the influence of mrijuana". I think this is an excellent point, plus marijuana would kinda releave stress like if your pissed and angry and you smoke a couple g's you mellow out and become happy.

I knw this probably wont help but hear ya go anyway.

By that I mean the government would save money by freeing up spaces in prisons taken up by mj dealers and other petty mj crimes. Also they could put less time, resources and money into cracking down on nug.

I honestly dont think i have seen a more well done documentary like this blows away all other documentaries even ones made by former Vice Presidents haha

It is hands down the best documentary i have seen on the subject thats for sure...The only problem is that it kinda drags in the middle for a while and it feels kinda long.

Super interesting though.

Probably has been said a bunch of times already but legalizing weed would lead to government regulation and profits through taxes.

Government can regulate the industry, which means that weed will generally be better quality, and safer then the stuff you find on the streets, maybe even FDA approved.

Taxes, similar to cigarette taxes would be placed on weed, allowing the government to earn steady profits from sales tax.

Lastly, the legalization of weed would deplete the underground industry. Who in the right mind would drive down into the city to buy weed from Tyrone, when you can hit up your local walmart and pick it up for a very similar price.

This will lead to less fights and killings over drugs, and in the end both stimulate the economy and reduce crime.

yeah just write that, and petty crimes such as kids getting pulled over with a J are backing up the cops, keeping them occupied on less important crime rather than other shit, also prisons are filling up and without weed crimes there would be less people, sorta
